"October Lights" - Session 1
October 6, 2003
Before we begin....
- Are we using Make It Worse?
- Relationship Map!
It is 9 AM in
Roseland, Oregon, and the changelings are all seated in home room together.
Everyone is a bit bored - who wants to be inside on such a warm October day? And warm it is - everyone is still dressed for the mild summers of eastern Oregon.
Describe what you're wearing and what you're doing instead of paying attention to the lesson!
As you do those things,
Josh Bunderson notices that the breeze coming in from the open window is starting to get chilly. In fact, as he notices it another breeze comes in, scattering
Rubi Slater's homework papers all over the floor.
Mrs. Hutch stops teaching and asks for Josh to please close the windows. As he does, he notices that the ground outside the school has spikes of ice all around it. They are spaced oddly - and a successful Perception + Survival check from any of the kids reveal that it is the right size and gait for a four-legged animal about the size of a small car.
As time goes on, it gets progressively colder and colder, until by the end of the day the blue skies have gone grey and the dew from early in the day has frosted over. Everyone is miserable - not being dressed for the weather - and as they go home they hear
Grant and Jacob Kelly's father yelling about a rogue Zamboni.
If the children choose to investigate, they will find a rogue chimera known as the Herald of Winter, who has become confused and
insists that this is the first day of Winter and it
must start the frost! It seems rather hassled and harried.
"The First Frost" - Session 2
October 6, 2003
Before we begin....
- A reminder to please write down what you're rolling for in the dice channel!
When the children decide to follow the chimera into the woods, they will find a small cave - more of a room, really - filled with beautiful, shiny pebbles, and hear the Herald talking with someone. That someone is
Nick Chambers, a clurichaun the same age as the children, who wants to bring winter so that his father will come back from his trucking job sooner. Perhaps even Nick will admit it's stupid once he stops being so defensive, but for right now, he's angry and wants everyone to just go along with his plan because it's so much better than all the others.
Map is here.
Nick obviously doesn't want to hurt the kids anymore than necessary - he's a kid himself - but he's not above scaring them or making them
think he'll hurt them. The Herald of Winter can be used as a steed, should he choose.
Honestly, I'm not planning very much for this group because I have no idea how they'll react to this. But we'll see how it goes!
