Session 46: The Citadel of Weeping Dragons

General Summary

The Vandals of Fate before they are able to begin searching the Citadel, have a run in with the Ominous Fabler who's real name is Gazzilfek. He has by his own choice left the services of Prince Zeech and wishes to travel with our Vandals to record their epic tale of adventure. After a few questions to ensure this in genuine they Vandals agree. Gazzilfek then returns to his normal size a 9 ft tall spriggan. The Vandals then begin to push their way into the citadel. Here they find a pair of hidden doors on either side of the hall. Opening them which requires some immense strength given these doors are designed for giants leave two paths, one leads towards a large ladder. The other towards a set of stairs. Wanting to clear this floor first they head through the double set of doors at the end of the hall. Luckily Masari senses the magical warding placed upon the door and points out the arcane trap. Xan attempts to disable the trap by carefully erasing the runes. However he accidently touches something he should not have and sets off the rune to explode in a radiant explosion. He tries a second time, this time more successful. Pushing open the immense doors they find a large circular chamber empty with two paths on both the right and left sides of the circle. Exploring the paths reveals dead ends. With this our Vandals back track towards the stairs.   Climbing the stairs meant for giants proves to be difficult but doable. Here they find another door that leads outside to the tower that overlooks the front bridge. They also find the slain giant that was mauled by the ancient blue Dragon only minutes prior. Stripping the giant of its magical gear the Vandals continue upwards by taking another set of stairs. Here they find themselves in another hallway with yet another door, the Vandals decide to head through this door. On the other side of the door they are met by a huge fire giant wielding a greatsword, along with a twelve headed hydra. The battle proves to be quite easy with Masari causing the Hydra's heart to even stop do to fear. Once the giant is slain, Fedi refocuses while the rest of the Vandals search the room. They take the giant's magical gear before deciding to head through the northern door.   On the other side of this door they find a large hallway with three sets of stairs, one set lead into a double set of stone doors, while one set leads upwards towards a large wooden hatch. The third set of stairs lead both downwards and upwards. Also in the room is another door, the Vandals decide on this door first to explore beyond. Pushing through they find the citadel's kitchen staffed by subservient bugbears. They cower towards our Vandals and admit they do not know anything that goes on or where anything is kept beyond their kitchen. Our Vandals then decide to check the double set of doors across the room, beyond these doors are the sleeping areas for the citadels medium sized caretakers. Our Vandals then decide to head towards the stairs that lead towards the wooden hatch. As they climb through this hatch they find themselves in a pillbox located on the upper battlements. With not much of interest the Vandals return to the last set of stairs. They decide to head upwards.   Arriving at the fourth floor the Vandals are attacked by a pair of Fire Giants. This battle is quite easy, and as they search the bodies they find more magical weapons and armor. Heading through a large stone door on the other side of the room they find themselves in a hall filled with twenty Dragon heads, each one mounted as a trophy. The Vandals realize each of these could be worth a fair amount of gold however it would also take a lot of space within all of the Vandal's pouches of holding. They decide to check out the stone doors in the northeast side of the room. Here they find destroyed siege engines, evidence of a previous Dragon attack towards the citadel. The Vandals continue their search of rooms heading off of this room, finding a single bed which feels like it would be for giant guests of the citadel. They also find the door that leads out to the upper battlements. Taking all of this in the Vandals decide to climb the ladder located within the trophy room. Arriving above they are met by another huge giant with a huge greatsword who tells our Vandals in Jotun that they will be killed for tresspassing on this most holy ground. The battle is quick and our Vandals are able to kill the giant. On the giant they find a single key sized for a medium creature. They also find a magic sword within his bedding.   Exploring the remaining towers finds little of interest so our Vandals return to the spiral stairs. Here they climb down all the way until they reach the basement below the main floor. Here they find a closed stone door, stairs that lead further downwards, and an open door leading into a well furnished room of furs and rugs.
