Session 43: The Third and Final Trials
General Summary
The Vandals of Fate begin their day by heading to the mountain, where Elora points out a large cave mouth. This cave mouth is easily the size of a gargantuan creature. With not much more to explore on the island they figure this is a good place to search for another trial. It only takes our Vandals about an hour of flying to arrive at this cave. As they begin to explore within they come face to face with a massive boar like creature, this creature proves to be deadly as it charges the Vandals. That being said Xan has the brilliant idea of throwing it over the side of the cliff within the cave, the beast ends up falling 500 feat into boiling lake below. The Vandals follow to finish slaying the creature as the third trial dictated. Once the deed is done they return to the cave and discover a few magical items on previous Ratcatchers who tried their luck with the beast.
With three of four trials now complete our Vandals realize the final trial to gather a feather from a living Roc, must mean the Roc sits atop this single mountain given Rocs prefering to make nests as high as possible. The Vandals begin their flight up the side of the mountain and within an hour of flight they find the nest. However the other team had been here already, and in doing so. Killed the Roc. This prevents our Vandals from gathering a living feather. Realizing their only opportunity is to track the other group and hope they took a feather while the Roc was alive our Vandals begin tracking them down the mountain.
After about 4 hours of tracking our Vandals manage to find the Hand of Vecna Darl Quethos along with two of his lackeys (a pair of Tieflings). The Hand of Vecna demands our Vandals to surrender the belt they had collected. Of course our Vandals refuse, this causes The Hand of Vecna and his minions to attack them. The battle proves to be quick and decisive. With Darl Quethos escaping with a Gate spell our Vandals slay the rest of the minions. Each of them thankfully have Roc feathers on them.
With all the trials now complete our Vandals return to the Portal of Storms where they met the four Fey Keepers. Here they are challenged by Sayren-Lei who believes that our Vandals are not the heroes of legend as the Roc was slain. Tylanthros declares that Sayren-Lei has the right to challenge our Vandals by a trial of blood. The battle is quick and Sayren-Lei ends up quickly surrendering to our Vandals who prove to be seasoned combatants. With this the four Fey Watchers declare that our Vandals are the heroes and they have earned the right to return the knowledge of the Rite of Storm to the world. In the place of the portal to leave transforms into a massive fountain springing forth with clear waters. Our Vandals take a sip and quickly drift away into the embrace of sleep.
