General Summary
The Vandals of Fate begin their long trek down the cavern with the waterfall. The climb is long and dangerous and they are ambushed twice, once by a group of Wind Warriors with crossbows, and a second time by a group of elementals that come from the mist. The Ratcatchers have very little trouble getting past them. Eventually they find themselves at the bottom where they meet Moreto, the supposed Marquis who stole the "key" from Flycatcher. The Ratcatchers quickly realize that Moreto who mentions that Dragotha will rise and set the world aflame in the name of
Kyuss is not someone that they should help in anyway. The Vandals of Fate have very little trouble in defeating him and his undead minions.
Now with the key in their possession, an orb inscribed with runes of law. They travel back up the waterfall where they had found a large 50 foot tall set of doors. Here the key allows them to open the doors. Inside is a room full of columns and below a deep pit filled with an electrical fog. The Vandals of Fate have little to no trouble in passing this trial and find themselves on a column that elevates them up towards the ceiling passing through an illusion. Once they arrive they find themselves in the true tomb. However within the room is also a Primordial force of Chaos. A Chaos Demon known as Augerric. The battle proves to be difficult as the ancient beast proves to be difficult to strike down. However our Ratcatchers manage to do so with teamwork and the help of Allustan. Once the demon is slain they search the sarcophagus and discover some very potent magic items. A ring of the Wind Dukes, a lightning Sword, a sword of Aaqa, and a fragment of a strange metal rod. The strange metal rod is quickly identified as the seventh piece to the Rod of Seven Parts.
With these powerful magic items now in possession of the Vandals of Fate they return to Flycatcher and defeat him. From there they return to
Cragmire, to sell their loot, and to prepare for their journey to
Magepoint where the Archmage
Manzorian resides. Maybe there our Ratcatchers can finally get some needed answer on the Age of Worms. And hopefully a path forward on how to prevent it.
Lightning Sword
The lightning sword is a +2 mithral short sword. Used by the Wind Duke Icosiol on the battlefield of Pesh, the lightning sword is the companion blade to the sword of Aaqa. The lightning sword's pommel is a single huge star sapphire that glitters with electrical energy. By drawing the lightning sword, the wielder can gain the effects of the fly power. This effect springs into being as part of the act of drawing the sword.
If the wielder fights with the lightning sword and the sword of Aaqa, he may strike the two swords together as a limited action to generate a stream template of sonic energy. All creatures in this area take 3d6 sonic damage. This effect can not be dodged.
Ring of the Wind Dukes
This heavy platinum ring is set with four large, pale blue sapphires and carved with the crisp runes of Law.
As long as it is worn, the wearer ignores the effects of strong winds and takes -10 damage to any trapping with electricity.
Once per day as a limited action, the wearer of the ring can transform into a stream template of lightning. All creatures in this line suffer 5d6 points of electrical damage. This effect can be evaded. The wearer returns to physical form at the opposite end of the line of lightning.
Rod of Seven Parts (Seventh)
This great artifact of Law was forged eons ago by the Wind Dukes for use in their war against the Queen of Chaos. It was sundered into seven parts during the battle of Pesh, and its fragments scattered across the multiverse. Over time, fragments of the Rod of Seven Parts have surfaced here and there, often in times of great need. Unfortunately, the Rod of Seven Parts remains unstable, and once its purpose is served it fragments anew, its components scattering, often returning to the site of Wind Duke tombs or ruins (as is the case of this fragment).
The fragment found in Icosiol's tomb comes from the tip of the original rod. The fragment measures 15 inches long, and it can be used to cast the heal power once per day.
A character who holds a segment of the Rod and thinks of it as part of a larger item can determine in what direction the next-larger segment lies by making a successful Spirit -4 test. Unfortunately, this segment is the largest fragment of the rod, and so cannot be used to find the others.
Sword of Aaqa
The sword of Aaqa is a +2 axiomatic mithril long sword with a hilt set with six pale sapphires the size of grapes. Used by the Wind Duke Icosiol on the battlefield of Pesh, the sword of Aaqa is the companion blade to the lightning sword. Whenever the wielder scores a raise on a creature with the sword of Aaqa, the sword creates a powerful blast of windstorm- force wind. The creature hit can make a Vigor -2 test to resist the effects of the wind. Small or smaller creatures (or flying Medium creatures) are blown away by this blast of wind. Creatures on the ground are knocked prone and roll 1d4x2 inches, taking 1d4 points of nonlethal damage per 2 inches. Flying creatures are blown back 2d6x2 inches and take 2d6 points of damage. Medium creatures (or flying Large creatures) that fail this test are knocked prone. Huge and larger creatures suffer no noticeable effect from the blast of wind.
If the wielder fights with the lightning sword and the sword of Aaqa, he may strike the two swords together as a limited action to generate a stream template of sonic energy. All creatures in this area take 3d6 sonic damage. This effect can not be dodged.
