Session 18: The Twisted Branch Lair
General Summary
The Ratcatchers go left further into the Lizardfolk lair searching for the missing battle mage. They end up finding a creature that gives off a sickening stench. The Ratcatchers manage to kill it however despite not knowing what they just fought. As they head south the group runs into a group of Lizardfolk. One thing of note however is one of the Lizardfolk looks quite sick. However the group attacks our Ratcatchers in defense of their home. The battle is quick however and the Ratcatchers slay a couple of Lizardfolk. However when they slay the sickened lizardfolk a green worm much like the one they had found earlier crawls out of the Lizardfolk. The Lizardfolk in terror throw down their weapons and flee south while calling out the name Hishka in Draconic. The group seeing this quickly heal up and check for more green worms before heading south to follow the lizardfolk.
When they arrive they meet the shaman of the tribe, who introduces herself as Hishka. She also asks for parley with the Ratcatchers. She tells a story of how their King killed their previous King and took over the tribe. She talks about their King had the backing of a Black Dragon known as Illthane. Their King used to be a slave in the Cloudbreach Arena forced to fight in gladiator battles. They also speak of how since Illthane left her egg with the Lizardfolk strange happenings have happened. Hishka after explaining all of this requests for the Ratcatchers to slay the current king and to save their eggs and the future of their tribe. As well as to negotiate peace between them and Cloudbreach. The Ratcatchers agree to this.
As they head to what is considered the throne room they find a single lizardfolk with a silver trident. This King named Shukak who speaks in well spoken common attacks the Ratcatchers. He proves a vicious warrior however our Ratcatchers manage to pin him down and slowly widdle him down to death. When he is killed Axto claims his trident and after identifying it they learn it is a +1 Striking Returning Trident. A powerful weapon in the right hands. The Ratcatchers return to Hishka and tell her of their achievement. With the King slain Hishka takes the Ratcatchers to the egg hatchery of the tribe. Here they spot the Dragon egg within the middle of the pool. However before they can remove the egg it begins to hatch. Instead of a Dragon wyrmling, hundreds of green worms eject into the pool. With panic from Hishka and the two lizardfolk warriors the Ratcatchers quickly go about squashing the green worms. They then help the lizardfolk in relocating their eggs to a different pool well away from where the green worms appeared. In doing so they also checked the eggs for any damage from the green worms. Thankfully they do not find any damage.
When they return to the surface Hishka undos the bindings of the two guards as well as Marzena. They are still unconscious so the party decides to wait until they can travel. Hishka promises the Ratcatchers safe haven for the night.
