Session 03: The Seven Lanterns
General Summary
The Ratcatchers continue to investigate the hidden area and within the room of the beatles they discover 3 corpses, each wear degraded leather armor depicting an eight pointed star. The symbol of The Seekers. Fida decides to take a sip of the strange orange material after she identifies it as a special material that fulfills all food and water needs for an individual once consumed. Unfortunately it is riddled with beetle waste and the substance although fulfill Fida's appetite causes a mild case of food poisoning.
The group then heads to the room across from the beetle one and they find a room full of stone slabs with a corpse laying on the far slab, his body looks to have been crushed by something. Upon stepping into the room the ratcatchers are overcome with fatigue however with a quick shake of their heads they move along after checking for treasure on the dead body. It also carries the symbol of The Seekers and some gold to boot.
As the group travels further into the area they discover a submerged room, as they quickly scout under the water they discover all the drain pipes in this room are clogged, they are then attacked by a water wisp, a slightly dangerous foe within this submerged room. Both Axto and Masari are injured during the fight. Our ratcatchers manage to defeat the foe and return to the surface where they patch themselves up thanks to Fedi their trained medic.
The group continues to explore the underwater area and they end up running into a Ghoul feasting on a corpse that has a red lantern attached to his belt. The ratcatchers gang up on this ghoul and manage to slay it. With victory they quickly evacuate to the surface, refill their lungs and begin to search the area around the corpse. They of course take the red lantern with them, a fair amount of coin, and a ring with the symbol of The Seekers upon it that was worn by the ghoul.
The group returns to the main hall where the sarcophagus with the seven lanterns resides. The group hangs the red lantern then returns to the murel when nothing happens. They see that in the murel the lanterns are all lit so they do the same within the main hall. Once they do so they realize nothing again happens, however in the cyan lantern hall the party notices there is no ceiling here, the group decides to climb the lantern chain to investigate.
Once they reach the top of the chain they find themselves in a long passage that leads towards a door with a screaming face. Seven lights appear on the door, each one the same color of the lights in the chamber below. The group steps forwards and opens the latch within the mouth revealing the room beyond. A metal ball pit with a petrified wood log as a bridge to the door beyond. When Axto steps forward he is pelted by iron balls and loses his balance falling to the floor below. Masari follows but is much more nimble in dodging the iron balls. Masari spots what she believes is the off switch for the elaborate trap, however before she can trigger the release Axto is attacked by a Grick who jumps out of the metal ball pit to attack. The ratcatchers manage to kill the grick with very little difficulties, however they do hear the sound of a child laughing.
Masari hits the release for the trap after a handful of tries in doing so. As they approach the far door once the party gathers up once more they are surprised when a ghost of a boy reveals himself. He tells a tale of leaving his family and ending up dying here within the Cairn. He says the only way to open the door is to hit the release on the inside. Which appears truthful given there is no handles or nothing on this side of the door. The ghost who introduces himself as Alastor Land says he will hit the release if the ratcatchers return his bones to his families graveyard. Axto attempts to suggest they will do it after but Alastor remains steadfast and only accepts to help the party after they have done his favor. The group accepts and returns to Cragmire. Here they sell off some of their loot giving them enough gold and silver to stay the night at The Feral Dog.
