Dwarf

The Dwarves of Ronia are a hardy bunch of craftsmen that have said to be born of the very mountains they call home. As one of the oldest races on the continent their history goes back almost 10,000 years to the Age of Dragons. The dwarves are quite free spirited and their government is based around their clans. Dwarves often find themselves with a life obsession and they will spend their long lifetimes pursuing said goal.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The dwarves are broad but compact standing well under 5 feet tall. However despite this they weigh as much as a Human who stands close to 2 feet taller on average.   Dwarven skin ranges from deep brown to a paler hue tinged with red, but the most common shades are light brown or deep tan, like certain tones of earth. Their hair, worn long but in simple styles, is usually black, gray, or brown, though paler dwarves often have red hair. Male dwarves value their beards highly and groom them carefully.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves have a low birth rate with only a handful of dwarves being born every year within the holds themselves.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves can live to about 400 years. As such they are very perceptive of the changes of the ages. The oldest dwarves remember a much different time compared to the current age. Dwarves are quite famous for holding grudges that they will hold for decades.    Dwarves are slow to grow, they are still considered children until they are 40 years old. At that point they spend the next fifteen years going through an adolescence stage, here they apprentice with craftsmen to learn their trade. At the age of fifty-five they are considered adults. When a dwarf reaches the ripe age of 275 they are considered to be of advance age. As they approach 350 they are considered to be venerable.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves mostly persist on cave mushrooms, and animals that can be raised underground. While they do have farmland within the valleys of the Baston Mountains they are not enough to feed the entire society within the clans.

History

The legends state the dwarves were born from the mountains themselves at the end of the Age of Dragons roughly 10,000 years prior. The dwarves were from the start skilled craftsmen who built great holds from the mountains that birthed them.   As the ages passed they found themselves at odds with the Elves of the Hodo Empire who lived by a strict code of honor and structure. The complete opposite of the dwarves. This difference would lead to multiple wars between the two nations, however with both races living long and having low birth rates, very little losses were ever reported during the conflicts.   As times passed the Neophate Dynasty would put their might behind the elves. While United Provinces of Odis would put their economic power behind the dwarves. This lead to a much deadlier war that is currently ongoing, with casualties on both sides far higher. It is currently not known how long the war can persist.
