The Erusean Valley

A simple valley near the large Nuren Aza Settlement, and the setting of the first real battle that Romnuchic has ever seen.

Geography

The Erusean Valley sits between the only mountain range on the continent of Alpha and a line of settlements, which includes the largest settlement on the planet, the Nuren Aza Settlement. A lake runs down into the valley, fed by the mountain streams, and a river moves from the lake, through a channel and into the ocean along a cliff-side. Other than that, the valley is fairly plain, with grassy fields and the occasional patch of wildflowers. Due to it's easy access to fresh water and natural protection from the elements, many traveling groups (like the explorer groups that are very common on Romnuchic) will set up camp in the valley. A few caves also dot the steeper west side where the valley hits up against the mountains, although few dare to set foot in the dark tunnels.

Fauna & Flora

Not a lot grows in the valley, aside from grass and wildflowers, but if you search for long enough, there are smaller, more diverse plants hiding in the fields. One of the most prominent is the yutaro, a small plant that grows a starchy vegetable underground, similar to a potato in texture and looks but much sweeter. This, along with plain grass, is what the fauna of the area survive off of. Many animals will pass through the valley on migrations from the mountains to the forests on the farther east, or vise versa, but the only creatures who live in the valley are small grey creatures known as larkan, who use their shovel-like snouts to dig up wild yutaroz. A creature called the turokaw has also been rumored to roam this valley, living in the barren caves and hunting weary souls who dare to explore their homes. In reality, however, these creatures likely just hunt larkaniz.

Natural Resources

The yutaroz is not a very popular plant in the actual marketplace, but poorer families gather them to feed their families, as they are in abundance in the area. Hunters, either individuals or ones hired by restaurants/stores to keep up the supply of food, will often hunt the wild larkaniz for their meat, while jewelry makers will hunt them for their bones and teeth, which have a unique natural silver color to them.
