Tsume no Doji Retsu
Retsu was a cruel and ruthless samurai. Dominated his family, cursing his son for their meager accomplishments. He cared little for the heimin, raising taxes in times of drought, floods or epidemics. The only reason the Crane Clan Champion Doji Satsume tolerated him was for his noble birth and history of loyalty to his family.
In 1100 Retsu came to the assistance of the besieged Phoenix Clan at Nikesake castle. Nasu no Shiba Shizuma swore his fealty to Retsu and was given permission by his lord to become Retsu's yōjimbō, to help unite the Phoenix and Crane in the Kintani Valley against the Damasu family.
Demise of the Damasu
Retsu was a cruel, ambitious and ruthless samurai. To shore up the Crane Clan's logistical lines to Toshi Ranbo, Lord Tsume Retsu besieged the Kyotie Castle, a castle belonged to the Damasu Family, vassals of the Lion Clan. Retsu eventually overcame its defenses and slaughtered every member of the Damasu family, including its Daimyō Damasu Kojima, in 1102.Seizing Toshi Ranbo
Seizing the small Lion castle of Kita no Yosa in a daring surprise assault, he eradicated the Goseki family and claimed the castle town, Toshi Ranbo, for the Crane, a claim subsequently upheld due to the Crane Clan's dominance of the Imperial Court. The Daidoji family assumed control of the castle.Death
In 1120 Retsu was assassinated and his sensitive and aloof son Tsume no Doji Takashi was made the new Daimyō.
