Chapter 4: A Tricky Party

Arrangements to be Made...

Nagisa utilizes Otoumo Sayaka, who is obviously feeling quite enamoured of her, for arrangements she cannot manage herself--a meeting with the Otoumo to get permission to get the Totori fan and convincing the Crane to allow her to thank the Spider at this 'Courtly event to promote peace'. Both are managed. She easily wins over the Otoumo, unrest of the Empire lubricating the deal, as he's looking for any signs of stability.   To pay her Master Theologist and Calligrapher, she writes a letter to the Yoritomo about Vihaan, insisting that they send her books as gifts for recompense for unlawful invasion of her lands. They, of course, agree.   While Nagisa does that, Izamiya also has a gift to arrange, and has Reisuka help him pen a letter to Vihaan--a water mage--to find out if he will help Gaisotsu's wife in return for his life being saved by the young Yasuki. Vihaan responds that he cannot get away from his mission to the Ivory kingdoms right now, but he will pull in a favor from the Lion.

The Back Room Tests...

Nagisa has people go in and out of rooms to test their blood. She confirms her suspicions of "Kenshi" by watching her reactions to the paintings and artifacts of a life she formerly lived. She tells Kenshi that her love, Bayushi Miyako, is at the party, but she proceeds to continue testing--in case that is not the Totori they speak of in the prophecy.

A Strange Request...

Kenshi asks Reisuka to go see how Bayushi Miyako is doing. Reisuka suggests anyone else. Kenshi insists it must be her. Reisuka agrees, but asks Izamiya to help, and her reasoning is 'a friend asked if I would ask how she was doing'. Izamiya says he'll figure it out. He goes to his parents to get it up the chain of command, leading with "her reasoning is unworthy of a visit with the Daimyo of the Scorpion clan, so we should instead inform them that she is rumored to be the reincarnation of Tsudao." It works.

An Embarrassing Meeting...

Reisuka is unsuited for a meeting, shifting uncomfortably to and fro the entire time. Izamiya accompanies her. She seems to zone out and carves something onto the Kakita floor with her claws, and Miyako's Onn breaks as she bows deeply and rushes out to cry. Paneki bows with his forehead to the floor as Reisuka comes to, and is mortified. She runs from the room, and Izamiya gives the proper exits.

A Thank You...

Paneki meets Nagisa and thanks her. He brings Izamiya as a thank you to him, allowing him the esteemed honor of being guest of two daimyos. As they are speaking casually, Izamiya opens the fan after Bayushi Paneki hands it to him. The awkward silence that follows then is explained by Nagisa, who is disappointed she does not have the information first and foremost, but would like to talk to the Scorpion daimyo about this new situation and make plans around it.

The First Imperial Legion...

Miyako immediately sends for Deijiko, who drops everything to come to meet the reincarnation of Tsudao. The First Imperial Legion shows up at the court, and Deijiko seeks an audience with Reisuka. While the young Yasuki is quite out of her element at first, Deijiko is not particularly proper, and they talk freely. She gets more information than Nagisa would want from Reisuka, who has no particular ability to be manipulative at all, and asks to see the painting that "Kenshi" had done for Reisuka, alerting Nagisa to the problem. While Deijiko does not immediately put it together, Nagisa knows she will tell Miyako, and she will not be so dense. So Nagisa has to inform Deijiko of Tsudao's lack of being dead, and they arrange to tell Miyako before Deijiko gives it away.

A Secret Unhidden...

Nagisa tells Miyako and Paneki of the state of "Kenshi", who is Tsudao under a particularly obvious pseudonym. Miyako immediately tries to find Tsudao. Nagisa requests they hold off, and they agree to wait a bit with some coaxing.
