Execution

Mahjong is a traditional tile-based game played by four players. Each player draws and discards tiles in turn, aiming to complete a winning hand before the others.

A standard Mahjong set consists of tiles divided into suits and honor tiles. The suited tiles are typically grouped into three suits, numbered from one to nine, while honor tiles represent winds and dragons. Each tile exists in multiple copies.

At the start of the game, players are dealt a hand of tiles. On their turn, a player draws a tile and then discards one, maintaining a fixed hand size. Players may also claim discarded tiles from others to complete specific combinations.

A winning hand is usually formed by completing four sets (such as sequences or triplets of matching tiles) and one pair. Variations exist, and different regions and traditions apply additional rules, scoring methods, and special hands.

Mahjong is both a game of strategy and observation, rewarding careful planning, memory, and the ability to read opponents’ intentions.
