Gloomstalker Woods

The Gloomstalker Woods is a vast and twisted forest located deep within the Shadowfell. It is known for its unnatural darkness, shifting shadows, and eerie silence. The trees in this region are blackened and skeletal, their bark perpetually oozing an inky sap that stains the ground. The canopy is thick, blocking out what little dim light exists in the Shadowfell, and the few glimmers that break through seem to move and flicker unnaturally. The forest derives its name from the Gloomstalkers, creatures that blend seamlessly with the shadows, preying on lost travelers. However, they are not the only threat—the trees themselves seem to be partially sentient, whispering ancient sorrows and moving ever so slightly when unobserved. Those who wander too long in the woods often experience hallucinations, hearing voices of lost loved ones or seeing figures lurking just at the edge of their vision. Many scholars believe the Gloomstalker Woods may be a remnant of a forgotten elven kingdom, as ruins overgrown with thorned vines can occasionally be found within its depths.
The Weeping Glade – A clearing where the trees "cry" black sap in slow, steady drops, forming pools of reflective liquid that distort the faces of those who look into them. The Hollow Grove – An area where the trees have grown so tall and dense that all sound is muffled. It is rumored that even spells cast here produce no noise. The Blackened Root – A massive, gnarled tree at the heart of the forest. Some believe it is the source of the woods' corruption
