Wet Whip
The weapon of choice for slaveholders in The Brights. The wet whip is a long ranged whip that is used to either corral slaves from one destination to the next or deliver discipline. Wet whips get their name from the mild toxin that the tip is coated with. One lash will sting just as any other whip, but after just two or three strikes the poison starts to take effect. Fortunately its not deadly, but instead causes temporary paralysis and keeps the victim from moving their arms or legs for a certain amount of time. Its source of the toxin is currently still a mystery, only known by the few women who create and distribute these weapons to each subdistrict of behalf of the Queen of Brighthaven.
The wet whip's main weakness is that is must break skin for the poison to enter the bloodstream of the recipient, so it does little damage to parts of the body protected by armor or other clothing it can't rip through. Luckily for the slaveholders but unluckily for the slaves, slave clothing is thin and is unable to resist the striking power of the wet whip. Some may also argue that the poison is not as potent as it should be, requiring repeated hits for it to have an impact. However this was done intentionally, so that slaveholders could warn their slaves with a single strike without interrupting their ability to work, and then continue to strike to enact further punishment if need be.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The tip of the wet whip is coated in a toxin that targets the nervous system of the victim when they are struck. Their arms and legs lock up and become unresponsive, causing them to fall over and leaving them at the mercy of their attacker. However, the poison isn't strong enough to cause this on the first lash, taking repeated strikes to have its full effect.
