The Sacred Hive
The Brights has a symbiotic relationship with the Sacred Hive, neither can survive without the other. One of the greatest factors in ensuring the viability of agriculture in The Brights is the presence of bees in the area. The Brightlings owe their prosperity and their very lives to the bees that pollinate their plants, and provide honey for consumption and to be distilled into mead. Only a single hive of bees survived the cataclysm, and the residents of The Brights have the responsibility on their shoulders to keep it alive as long as they can.
Since the founding of The Brights and the discovery of the surviving hive, the Brightlings have worshipped it as an artifact of their goddess. They have kept it nourished and protected from the many militant invasions and other chaotic forces from the wasteland beyond. If the Sacred Hive was in danger, any Brightling would feel the obligation to lay their lives down to protect it.
Even though it is an object of worship in The Brights, the Sacred Hive is not necessarily safe to be near. The hive has grown to the size of a small human house. It currently holds over 500,000 bees, and the buzzing of all their wings can be heard from a good half-mile away. While most would assume the venomous stingers from the bees is the most dangerous thing about them, and they would be correct on a physical level, but the Sacred Hive as a whole is much more dangerous. It emits a continuous stream of sound from the buzzing of a million wings which has been known to put people into a trace-like state. Some people who have experienced this phenomenon claim they hear voices in droning.
