Maelstromite

The octopus is the most intelligent invertebrate known to man. Capable of solving puzzles, using tools and even feeling boredom, octopus' intelligence rivals even that of a raven. But, when it comes to the octopus' capabilities, most people first think of its ability to change color in order to hide, attract mates, or warn off potential predators. When an octopus feels threatened, it will bury itself in the sand or coral and change colors to match its surroundings. Maelstromite works in a similar fashion. While not technically living, the rock seemingly doesn't wish to be moved and resorts to disguising itself by warping it's appearance using the maelstrom. As a result, the difficult to spot rock is able to avoid treasure hunters and archeologists alike as it only appears as a normal rock.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Maelstromite appears inconspicuous; a grey rock in a mostly grey world. It can be difficult to spot because of its natural fit with the world's color palette, but once picked up the illusion falls and the holder can witness it's true being, something unfathomable and hauntingly beautiful.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Maelstromite is warm and fuzzy to the sane but frigid and slippery to the rest. The rock crumbles easily and is soluble, almost begging to be used in any form necessary.

Compounds

This rock is often used to enhance the effects of drugs or medicines.

Geology & Geography

Maelstromite can be unearthed in the Infinite Loop where the maelstrom seems to be the strongest. While it can generally be found close to the surface, maelstromite is most prevalent close to the mysterious metal dome, making it difficult to be reached without being struck down.
