Maelstorm

What happens when you mix thunderstorms and maelstrom? Nothing good, I'd imagine. A maelstorm is a storm formed by the maelstrom. Usually plaguing areas like The Char and Infinite Loop, blue-gray clouds will blanket the sky before seeping down towards the ground to cover the effected area with a thick fog. Maelstorms are disorienting; this combined with their natural fog makes it easy for people to get turned around and lost within them. Tell-tale signs that a maelstorm is incoming includes a sudden, deafening silence, the forming of blue-gray clouds, violet skies, and an itching in the back of the brain.
