The Pit
One of the main destinations for refugees traveling through the Deep Lines, the Pit is the largest hole ever dug. Below the embattled, former dwarven city of Techolm, the Pit is 40 miles across, deeper than it is wide, and getting deeper every day. The walls of the Pit are lined with "vein towns" where dwarves work day and night to extract the raw materials needed to fuel The Inventor's machinery. Airships transport these supplies through the airy blackness from the vein towns up to the old ruins above or down to the Drilling Platform. In the Ruins of Techolm they sustain the war effort; at the bottom of the Pit are used to produce more machines and, of course, to continue digging the hole. There is a saying amongst the dwarves of the post apocalypse: “You fight, or you dig.” Occasionally one of the airships will go missing, and rumors abound of marauding Pit Pirates. As with the Deep Lines, magic is not welcome, and airships are equipped with jamming field technology.
