The Drilling Platform
Propaganda and rumor tell of safety at the center of the world. "Gods and magic are up," says The Inventor, "So let's go down." This is now the seat of dwarven power. An entire mechanized city designed to drill itself deeper into the earth every day, leaving the Pit in its wake. Here society slowly rebuilds as it grinds itself deeper and deeper. But it is not as idyllic as The Inventor would have one believe. Magic-suppressing drugs are mandatory for humans, though they are not distributed for free. Refugees are put to work manning the drills in order to earn their keep. Dwarves are noticeably treated better by any figure of authority, but it's still better here than it is above. Even the purple worms don't dig this deep. Still, people can't help but notice that the temperature is rising, and the city is beginning to creak with the strain of its endless efforts, making people ill at ease.
Structure
Corporate Ologarchy.
Public Agenda
Drill deeper. Advance science. Avoid conflict. Suppress magic. Shun the gods. Survive.
Assets
The highest levels of science and industry can be found here. Unfortunately nothing grows this deep underground, so Heavy metals and equipment are traded for food from the upper dark, and gold from the vein towns lining The Pit.
History
The frame of what is now the platform was once the underbelly of Old Techolm. Mining infrastructure, earthquake reinforcements, industrial districts, and sewer systems, now lashed together to form a raft to ride out the apocalypse.
"Gods and magic are up, so let's go down."
