RoE Short Fact's: Age in Dragon Society

Did you know: That because many creatures in Elysium live such long lives, in many societies, age seems to be the only determining factor of one's power and status in a close-knit family group; especially those who may at times be killed before they reach a certain age bracket.   For example in dragon culture, abilities, while they may help a dragon obtain a certain status, don't always help in doing so. Instead Dragon hierarchy for some species is often based solely upon age. The older and more ancient the individual, the often greater their say in matters and the stricter the punishment given to those who go against their wishes. Older Dragons are also crucial in large family groups, often vital for passing down knowledge and legends and such to younger dragon's to help them on their journey's through adulthood, similarly to the standing of older matriarchal Elephant's teaching the young how to survive droughts and food shortages.   However, because older dragons are often times greater and more powerful when aged and are often times extremely large with traits much younger individual's don't obtain until they reach a certain age, many older individuals are often killed for various reasons, thus leaving family groups in much disarray with some customs such as individual family migration routes and the location of hunting lands needed to survive lean periods ultimately disappearing from knowledge forever.   This often goes especially for dragons who unlike others of their kind are magically inclined. The older the Dragon, the Greater their magic and the more they are sought after, some for teaching, others for slaughter.
