Ibaehiri (Yi-buh-here-ee)
Floating City of Artifice
Ibaehiri is a long-lost enclave of Netheril; a metropolis cityscape built atop the bottom of an upturned mountain held aloft in the air by powerful magics. In ages past many such floating enclaves comprised the Netherese Empire, but the others lie shattered in ruins across Faerun's landscape or simply, utterly destroyed. Cast into the Ethereal Plane by Wild Magic-induced effects that scholars say resembled Valdick's spheresail during the events of Karsus' folly, Ibaehiri was spared this fate. Its inhabitants were eventually stabilize the floating environ and anchor it adjacent to Mechanus, until it was once again pulled back to Faerun.
History
Adrift Among the Planes
With their access to the weave cut off--no longer being in Realmspace--arcane magic as it had been known up until that point essentially became a useless art. However, with experimentation, many former casters found that they were able to recreate many of their previous spell effects in the form of various physical inventions imbued with an energy that comes from the self and doesn't necessarily depend on the Weave. These discoveries would later be made in a parallel fashion in Realmspace after the fact, but Ibaehirans refined the underlying processes to a degree that would be unheard of the Realms. In the present day, some of the most practiced Fabricators Primus are able to create Epic Magic equivalent effects with their artifice. In those earlier times, however, understanding was limited. Eventually one House was able to design and manufacture a turbine-driven thruster capable of operating within the interplanar phlogiston, and Ibaehiri found itself a new home adjacent to Mechanus on the border of its Ethereal Curtain. Architecture gradually grew to reflect a functional arcane steampunk aesthetic. Piped steam running through a byzantine network of pipes and pumps provides energy to various appliances and gadgets throughout the city. This systems, originally installed to support the stationkeeping mana thrusters with seed heat, has its temperature and pressure regulated by a number of mana boilers dotted throughout its districts and levels. Enchanted mechanical constructs bearing the glowing sigils of their creators served as physical labor, hissing excess steam as they shambled around the city in the performance of various menial tasks.Return to Realmspace
With Mystra's death during the Time of Troubles , the enclave as a whole found itself rebounded back into Realmspace, and the descendants of ten generations of Ibaehirins who never knew Faerun suddenly found themselves back 'home'. Scholars continue to debate the particular arcane processes underlying this event, but the prevalining hypothesis surrounds Ibaehiri having been 'saved' by Mystra during the Folly but subsequently lost to her grasp and sight once it passed beyond the borders of Realmspace's crystal sphere. Its three massive pivoting turbine-driven mana thrusters originally installed to fix and correct the enclave's "orbit" around Mechanus now allow it free movement across Faerun at a speed of ~25mph. At the start of 141 PR, it sits off the Sword Coast about a day's thopter flight from Waterdeep, and on a daily basis several such flights travel back and forth ferrying merchants, curious tourists, representatives of the Lords High Alliance and agents of the Emirs.Ibaehirans in Faerun
