Chandra

A humanoid race that has strong Vulpine traits. They retain fox-like tails, and ears, and in some cases slightly vulpine features and teeth. The Chandra culture rivals the gnomes for technological advancements, though Chandra uses steam as the basis for their technology. They possess a highly militaristic culture where all Chandra serve at least five years in their nation's byzantine military apparatus, though such service needs to be in a frontline unit. As far as any envoys to the Chandra can surmise there is only one united Chandra nation and culture. Acute listeners can surmise that the Chandra once had several cultures and notions but they were all absorbed in the current hegemony. In modern Chandra society, their ethnicities often tend to seek professions that suit their perceived strengths, but as a pragmatic people, any Chandra can pursue any profession or military discipline they can demonstrate an aptitude in.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

In a cultural tradition that other species often misunderstand, Chandra never lists, displays, or pronounces a cost for any goods or services they offer. The Chandra asks for goods or services and expects the buyer to announce the price they will pay and then render those goods or services based on how suitable the Chandra deems that payment. Outsiders dealing with Chandra have found that when they pay a great deal for goods or services the end result often far exceeds their expectations. Chandra possesses a keen supernatural insight when they are asked to craft anything, be it food, a sword, or a skyship. They can sense the needs and truth of the commissioner's needs and goals. If a rich man tries to cheat a Chandra, if a person knowingly obfuscates the item's expected use, or villager lacks the funds for a needed item the Chnadra will know on a subconscious level and build accordingly. A rich man who tries to short the Chandra will get a substandard item, a greedy warrior who tries to overpay for a sword in the hops of getting an artifact-level item might just end up with a serviceable magic sword and the Chnadra will donate the excess to their community. A poor farmer who gives most of what they have may receive a plow that enhances the yield of their fields, as Chandra believes someone willing to give nearly all they have is worth more than a rich person paying a vast sum they will never miss. Most Chandra would also return the excess money in secret, while still giving the extras if they are able. Chandra have also been known to include magics to an item that the commissioner doesn't know they need yet. Such users of a Chandra item may find something like an ability that smites undead activating on their weapon when they are surrounded by undead, weeks, or even years later. Outsiders paying a high price and looking forward to a decent meal or a serviceable weapon have found themselves presented with a gourmet feast or a magical item with interesting capabilities. Conversely, those who offer mediocre compensation might find themselves with stale bread or a wooden practice sword.
