The Nature of Worlds

From what was the end of one era, sparked the beginnings of the next.   The beings that destroyed the planet of Spheris were an unknown, power beyond imagining and terrifying to behold. A battle that raged through the eons was finally and catastrophically ended upon the world below. Whatever powers these beings possessed destroyed the planet, rent the very mantle from its core and cast it to the void. In both their own death throws and in that of the planet they ended their lives but cast the seeds of rebirth.   In time the mantle settled into an orbit around the exposed core, the boiled away oceans of the old world clung to the land that was, like a misted veil. The energies of the titanic struggle that ended one world gave the simple life that remained the kick start it needed to grow and thrive. In time the primitive life that had been given existence began its slow evolutionary crawl. The peoples that came to be knew nothing of their unusual origins or that the lands they inhabited were unique among the stars. To them it was home and a harsh place it is to live. Shifting solar currents can at any time cause the thin atmosphere to shift, leaving areas of the rings exposed to the vacuum of the void. Twice a cycle the molten core of the old world shifts about its axis. This in turn causes the very lands themselves to either flip or become shrouded in almost darkness, the only light cast about its surface then is the molten glow of the old-world.   In the histories of the new races this event has many tales and theories, stories passed down from generation to generation. Legends, theologies, scientific advancements and devastating wars have all arisen on nature of the world and how it came to be. The peoples of the ring have learnt to adapt to their situation, harnessing the winds to constantly move about the ravaged landscape, finding safe harbours, fertile soil or sources of water to exist in, if only for a short while, before the world once again shifts and swirls around them.
