Concerning the Magic of Ring World

The Two True Magics and the Emergent Force

Metaphysical power manifests itself within and without the world and the rings in three distinct forms. Each form is unique and draws to it individuals who attune to it, are compelled to use it or have a natural talent for it. Herewith are the three core metaphysical manifestations:

Cora Magicalis

Drawn from the very rock of the planet, Core Magic is dark and destructive. It drives decay, collapse, and the ruination of all that it touches, seeking to bring disorder to all that is ordered. Crystals, geodes, certain types of hard rock, and rare gemstones from the planet allow for this form of magic to be channeled and harnessed by those who'd seek to use it for their own ends. Those who worship Cora Magicalis often become consumed by the magic as it slowly destroys them from within. Why then would anyone wish to draw upon this dark force? The power to wither mountains, smash stone, and blast enemies with the raw destructive power of a Coa Magicalis spell most certainly appeal to many.   To study Cora Magicalis one must study for a length of time to understand how to unmake something. How to destroy something. Attempt to destroy too much and the power you need to draw is immense. Destroy the critical component that binds the structure together, and then you have truly mastered Cora.

Circe Magicalis

The rings, those beautiful structures upon which life is born are bathed in the divine light of the suns. Circe Magicalis is the opposite force the Cora Magicalis. It heals, restores, and brings order to systems out of balance. Unlike its opposite, Circe Magicalis does not require a crystal or focus through which to channel it but requires light. In the darkness the magic is weak; only in light and preferably sunlight is it at full potency. The closer one gets to the planet and thus, the further from the sun, the weaker Circe gets.   In order to master Circe Magicalis, one needs only to spend time with the living. Or to observe nature on a spring day. Life finds a way, and so does every user, all it takes is a little compassion, a little light, and a gentle touch.

Kaos Manifestis

Where Circe and Cora are the balance to one another and allow for many wonderous things to be created and destroyed, Kaos Manifestis is a byproduct of the two metaphysical powers interacting with one another. As if the magnetic fields might create a magnet between them when they interact with one another. Masters learned long ago that at certain junctions, or through the purposeful addition of Cora and Circe magics Kaos might be manifested. Hence the name. Artificial machines, engines of tremendous power, and according to legend - the holding of the rings in place - is all possible due to Kaos Manifestis. The control of Kaos is fairly easy - by someone who understands how to do it. In the hands of a skilled practitioner portals for instant travel to other parts of the ring, weapons, and machines can be made to come alive. In the hands of an untrained practitioner, however, explosions, carnage, and death usually soon follow.   Academies exist where talented individuals can go and learn about Kaos Manifestis. The entrance exam is considered by some to be the most dangerous in all the world and rings.

Manifestation

Cora Magicalis

The visual effect of this form of magic being unleashed is most often a distortion and 'shattering' effect of reality. Seldom is beautiful except perhaps in how it seems to reflect the opposite of the space in which it is cast. Shadow and darkness are often commonly associated with this magic.

Circe Magicalis

Sunlight, soft as the glow in early Autumn or late Summer. A warmth and a general feeling of contentment. Or a blinding light so hot and intense that neither water nor ice seems to offer any release from the searing pain that comes with it. Most practitioners agree - Circe Magicalis is meant to be used in moderation and with compassion, always.

Kaos Manifestis

It looks like arcs of bright blue lightning, jumping about like a spider on a web. The bigger the arc, the bigger the energy release. If an arc is as big as a man, the man will surely die if the arc touches him. If the arc is smaller than a finger, then there may be no harm. When there is no arc, there is no Kaos.

Localization

Cora and Circe Magicalis are both directly affected by the proximity they have to their source of origin. In the case of Cora Magicalis, it is strongest when used on the planet's surface and when using crystals sourced from the planet. Circe Magicalis, on the other hand, gains potency the closer it is too bright sunlight and midday. Both can be used effectively across the rings and the planet, though at times they will fluctuate on how much power they can produce.
