A mirrored stone and a piece of fruit

Valla of Falling Rocks and Flying Rocks set out with several tasks sitting on her brain. She'd had ideas the previous night. While the ideas interrupted a night that could have been spent thinking about holding up a rock high in the air, these were good thoughts as well.   She hefted her club over one shoulder and a sack over the other. A few distinct sounds hit her ears as the sack settled into place; the squishing of fruit and the clanking of several cutting stones. The fruit's sound upset her a bit as she realized the softness of the fruit was a poor companion to the rocks. Deep in her brain the concept was filed away for later improvement. For the moment Valla figured the bruised fruit might smell better so that could work to her advantage.   Giving her village, and specifically the Building House a nod, she strode off into the clearings along the edge of the woods. Today was going to be a good day of learning. As she ran her speed increased with her rising body temperature, though she was oblivious to the connection.   Breathing heavily she reached her destination; another clearing a few miles from the village. She set her bag down besides a large wooden structure that had taken shape over the years. By her hand Valla had created a place to practice her club drills on moving targets. The various logs were pinned and hinged together so her strikes would result in reactions from the wood. She had concluded this made her much sharper than if she had simply hit the standard, standing logs used to train younglings.   Valla spent her time until the sun reached its highest point working out with and without her club. She flew through her katas with speed that defied the relationship of her club to the size of her body. Wood splintered and the peals of her strikes resonated, driving her faster and faster. It did occur to her that a few more years of training would most likely make her the most complete club warrior in the village. She resolved to build an even larger training center here if she were to teach club to others.   Towards the end of her workout she caught a familiar sight in the tree tops; a mop of hair attached to some being trying to hide up high. Valla had noticed this creature several suns ago and paid it no attention as it was neither large nor aggressive. Over the days she had noticed its presence regularly. Her brain, geared to learn, began to formulate a way to study the hair mop.   Her hypothesis was that the creature was alive so it must eat. Everyone she knew loves fruit so eating fruit would make sense for this new creature. In her sleepy mind she had come up with a plan to interact and study the creature: give it fruit.   Valla noted the tree that Mop was hiding in before sitting down to eat her lunch. She had raided the food forest that morning for a large pile of dwinga nuts, a clay container full of blackberries, and 3 fresh yellow melons. As she rolled her club slowly over the dwinga nut shells to crack them, she felt the familiar warmth of discovery. Here she was about to investigate another creature. New knowledge, new learning, and new possibilities flooded her mind.   She finished eating in the shade of her combat contraption and fished around her bag for the slightly squished fruit. Her hand found one of her cutting rocks, reminding her of another task for the afternoon. She resolved to cut sticks after offering the mop some fruit. Valla stood up with the fruit in one hand and her club resting on her shoulder. She walked over to the tree and placed the fruit on the ground and stepped back three paces.   Then she waited...   Mwpnot knew he had been seen. Freezing in place within the tree, he focused on his breathing trying not to be scared. He knew that his glow would give him away if he didn't steady his fear. Although relatively small, the club swinging creature below was clearly powerful and skilled in the smashing of trees and probably bones too. Mwpnot only closed his eyes for a moment to focus his breathing as he had done so many times before and then opened them again to watch this creature carefully.   Mwpnot was surprised the creature didn't dash up the tree and try smash him as it had done to the sticks. He had watched this creature before and was familiar with its speed. Mwpnot felt confident he could escape through the canopy but still, he was cautious and very curious. This was the first time he knew he had been spotted and wasn't sure if the creature was looking to test its bashing skills on another living creature.   He watched carefully as the creature was putting the Vllgoo fruit on the ground and just stood there with her bash stick on her shoulder. Did this creature really think that Fnipper are so unintelligent that they would just run into such and obvious trap? Mwpnot thought for a moment, there are two obvious options before him. He could attack first and trust in his agility and speed in the canopy to be able to evade this creature. Or perhaps, this creature is seriously offering a perfectly ripened Vllgoo fruit? He sat in the tree watching for a few moments, studying how the creature held the club, looking at it's stance. Was it a trap or a test? Could a creature so aggressive be generous?   Valla noticed the creature eying her and the fruit. Maybe he didn't understand how to eat it. She walked to the fruit, picked it up, and made the motion of biting the side of it; all while looking at Mwpnot. Then she pointed at the fruit, pointed at Mwpnot, then extended her hand with the fruit in his direction.   Mwpnot, put his blade back into it's sheath and reconsidered his actions. He positioned his feet around the branch below him and grasped it with his toes. He then let go of the branches to his sides and rotated on the lower branch until he was upside down. He pointed at himself and said "Mwpnot." Then he released his toes and in a very fluid motion flipped around and landed on the ground.   He reached into a small pouch strapped to his side and pulled out a handful of small dark nuts that he had roasted the night before. He looked into the eyes of this creature and felt no fear. Instead he felt a slight jolt of excitement. His skin glowed just slightly with a soft yellow hue. He put one nut in his mouth and tasted the complex flavor that roasting produces and then placed the rest on the ground near Valla's feet. He again pointed at himself and said "Mwpnot" and reached for the Vllgoo fruit.   Valla nodded, and handed Mwpnot the fruit.  She sat down, laid the club across her lap and picked up the nuts. With a flick of her wrist she popped two of them in her mouth and bit down.   Happy alarms went off in her brain.  This nut was familiar, but not like this.  It was better than eating them straight out of the shell.  Valla nodded her head vigorously and smiled. She ate two more then reached around to her bag.  She produced two more of the Vllgoo fruits and put them on the ground.     She moved the fruit towards Mwpnot and pulled the nuts to her, leaving everything on the ground.  She pointed both hands at the fruits, then both at the Fnipper.  She repeated the gesture for the nuts and herself.  Then put out her left hand and gave a thumbs up sign combined with another smile.
