Raid on Alya
The Conflict
Prelude
Working through several former contacts, the Riesenjagers secured a lucrative contract to take part in a raiding mission for the Lyran Commonwealth alongside another Mercenary company known as Leana's Lancers. The company linked up with the Lancers and the LCAF Mercenary Liaison Meo Tran enroute for the Draconis Combine planet of Alya. Landing on the planet on July 27th, 3020 as their dropship feined an emergancy landing due to engine issues, theoretically allowing the combined forces to disbark from the dropship.
The Engagement
The DCMS reacted quickly to investigate the emergency landing of the dropship. The disembarking completed before the DCMS arrived. The DCMS were able to figure out what was going on and set up defensive positions in order to trap the landed forces. After scouting out the defensive lines, combat was first initiated on August 3rd, 3020. Leana's Lancers and the Riesenjagers struck at independent spots along the defensive lines. This resulted in a breakthrough allowing the companies to reposition to a better fighting location and set up a base camp.
The Outlaw Infantry Platoon took heavy casualties in the fighting, a funeral service was held after the camp was set up. Jonas soon ordered both the Outlaws and Rough Riders out on an extended reconnaissance mission as a "distraction." They would return with a rough idea of where the DCMS have mustered. The Night Hawks are then deployed to "keep an eye on" the location. In the meantime, Meo Tran, Leana Miller, and Jonas Kruger debate how to proceed.
On August 10th, the Night Hawks report a team of BattleMechs and combat vehicles departing the DCMS camp in the rough direction of the Riesenjager camp. Meo Tran ordered the camp to be struck and moved, Leana's Lancers would stay behind to assist in the process while defending the camp. In the meantime, the two RJMC BattleMech lances were deployed to intercept the incoming DCMS forces with Meo Tran attached to Saber Lance.
Despite Meo and Jonas butting heads, Saber Lance would engage the enemy on August 12th. Despite spotting the force early, Jonas and Meo were ambushed while attempting to flank the force resulting in the loss of Meo's Thunderbolt when her weapons failed to fire and forcing a hasty medevac when Meo's ejection system failed to deploy, resulting in devastating injuries. For more information, please read Incident Report ALYA-30200802 Saber Lance remained on station, repositioning to support Hitman Lance when they were attacked two hours later near an ore processing plant.
The two lances would regroup at the new camp site. The RJMC's doctor, Harriet MacAvoy, lacked the supplies and equipment to fully stabilize Meo's condition, claiming she would be dead in a few days. After a brief discussion, Jonas, Dr. MacAvoy, and the Night Hawks departed on the companies Karnov for the city of LaSabrea.
In their absence, the remaining RJMC along with Leana's Lancers pushed through towards the coast of the Desije continent. On August 15th, they engaged a small DCMS force defending a seaport. The Lancers struck the entrance of the seaport while the RJMC, led by Shurik Arano in Jonas' absence, pushed through on the flank. Between the sudden two prong attack and an arial bombardment from the RJMC aerospace fighters, the defending DCMS were routed. The combined mercenary forces held the location long enough to load up their assets onto a pair of captured cargo ships and departed for the Paroasis continent.
With their mission complete, Jonas and his team met the combined mercenary force when they landed on the Paroasis continent on August 19th. A brief action was started to take control of the port to allow disembarkation. The process completed without issue or and sort of significant resistance.
A DCMS force arrived at the next day, the combined mercenary force defended themselves. After the DCMS turned in retreat, the combined mercenary force would begin their push across the continent. On August 21st they would engage with a significant militia force sent to stop them. The DCMS eventually broke, causing the engagement to become a running battle as they attempted to pull back while fighting. The RJMC would eventually end their pursuit towards the end of that day.
The combined mercenary force would continue to be on the move as they pushed towards the Saline Sea, an inland saltwater sea on the Paroasis continent. They would arrive on August 26th. The Riesenjager would gather all their atmospherically sealed vehicles and BattleMechs and travel into the relatively shallow sea. The theory being that they could cross the body of water and surprise the enemy forces waiting on the other end.
The gathered DCMS forces on the opposite end were indeed surprised as two lances of BattleMechs and Battle Brick would emerge from the sea. The remaining Riesenjager combat teams would be dropped off via hover trucks of the Karnov Transport as the BattleMechs engaged the enemy. After a hard-fought battle, the RJMC successfully forced the DCMS away and established a beachhead. The remaining members of the combined mercenary force would be delivered via the same hover truck and Karnov transports until the entire force was gathered on the beach.
The combined force would dig in not far from the beach. Leana and Jonas would take this time to plan out their next moves. Over the next few days teams would go through drills and equipment was cleaned and repaired, and plans were finalized.
During this time, Jonas offered Meo a position within the Riesenjager as her injuries would lead to her forced retirement from the LCAF. Reluctantly, Meo would eventually accept, taking control of Jonas' Marauder.
That night, a riot would break out between the personnel of Leana's Lancers and the Riesenjager after Donald Holstad, the Leana's Lancers chief MechTech, was shot and killed by Shurik Arano as he was working on Meo's Marauder. A quick investigation found that he was attempting to sabotage the 'mech by disabling the BattleROM and ejection system, similar to what was theorized to have led to the destruction of Meo's Thunderbolt during the second battle. After a brief but intense confrontation, Leana and Jonas managed to gain control of their respective companies and the two went their separate ways from there. For more information see Incident Report ALYA-30200901.
Jonas called all members of the RJMC to a briefing on September 2nd, there he outlined the plan to take the planetary Capitol of LaSabrea. The company would depart later that night.
LaSabrea had been fortified with automated defenses. The remaining members of the planetary militia, even with DCMS reinforcements, were pushed back ward by ward until they were backed against the Ward 1 spaceport. On the third day of the battle, the Riesenjager pushed into Ward 1, meeting Leana's Lancers, who had pushed through the opposite side of the city as planned, at the spaceport after defeating the DCMS command lance and surviving waves of loader mechs remotely piloted and loaded with explosives.
While hostilities are reported to have ended with the capture of LaSabrea, Incident Report ALYA-30200907 indicates that there was one more engagement that occurred. The company departed the Alya system on September 27th, 3020.
Outcome
Alya was never officially claimed by the Lyran Commonwealth. The mission was successful in that the raid drew the attention of the DCMS. The 1st Dieron Regulars were deployed to take back the world, however, the mercinaries were long gone by then. This allowed other Mercinary forces to complete their missions on other worlds of the DCMS.
