DESCRIPTION
The Huginn Drone is a small drone designed by
Aurigan Defense Industries. It is able to be launched and recovered by hand or launched via vehicle or mech mounted launch and recovery units.
The Huggin borrows the flying wing design of the Boomerang Recon Plane. Its long wide wings allow it to generate plenty of lift. A pair of electric motors in the wings drive a propeller to push the drone through the air. A central pod houses the optics package and central computer.
The drone is operated semi-autonomously with orders being given by the operator and the onboard computer deciding the best way to execute those orders.
WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT
The Huginn is equiped with a sophisticated recon camera suite, capable of both low light and thermal imaging and featuring a decent level of magnification. While not as capable as the optics on a BattleMech or modern tank, its ability to lotter over an area and look down on the enemies gives it an advantage.
Each Huginn has enough space within the body cavity to allow a disasembled SRM warhead to be carried within with some modification. This shortens the drones range and slows its top speed, but allows it to become a guided bomb in extreme situations.
VARIATIONS
Vehicle Launched
This version features solar cells in the wings to provide extra power, allowing this varient to stay airborne for up to 48 hours. This varient features a notch in the central pod, allowing connection with a launching catapult system. It's wings have reinforced leading edges allowing it to be mechanically captured as if flies through a capture system.
Infantry Launched
This varient lacks the features of the vehicle launched version in order to save weight. It's base parts can be broken down to be carried by three people. The central and engine pods are extended downward in order to facilitate a ground landing without striking the propellers.
