Oroc of Riesa

The heights of the Warwarion Steppe provided a vast expanse safe from the dangers of the Niniesh Sea. It was here on the open plains and in the jagged canyons that the Orocs made their home in the aftermath of the Cataclysm. Over the millennia they have developed their own culture, adapting to the arid land around them. Masters of the spear, the bow, the horse, and the wolf, the Oroc make use of all the natural resources around them. Whether in the tent cities or the cliff dwellings of the Oroc visitors are often welcomed with meals of spiced axebeak or antelope, washed down with a variety of berry liquors.
Culture
On the Warwarion Steppe Orocs live in loosely organized villages hugging the sides of the many canyons or in nomadic camps wandering the open plains. While each tribe has its own well-defined territory, the membership is always in flux as there is significant movement between groups. Rarely, a leader will emerge and gather all the tribes under his banner, but such hordes rarely last beyond his lifespan. In addition to hunting and gathering food, orocs raise sheep, goats, and chickens. Common smaller animal companions and familiars are rats, lizards, chickens, wallabies, or foxes. Among young orocs, challenges of strength and skill are very common.
Relations
While capable of great ferocity in defending their homes, most oroc can be quite welcoming of outsiders. While they are tolerant of others, they quickly take offense if they feel they or their communities are insulted. They have significant contact with the elves to the east, often trading horses and livestock. The gnomes to the west are a great source of entertainment as well as goods not normally available on the steppe. They prize stories from the Edari, appreciate the stoic nature of dwarves, and like to test their strength and skill against humans they encounter. Surprisingly, they have perhaps the most in common with halflings and can spend hours discussing the finer points of getting along with their animal companions.
