Eldritch Storms

Each culture has its own names for the different types of eldritch storms that frequent the coasts of the Sea of Niniesh . Scholars hypothesize that at the centre of the EYE OF KURIMUS there must be a planar nexus that provides the genesis for each storm. Others believe that the storms are created when great works of Niniesh finally decay and unleash their power across the face of Riesa.   Warpstorms typically include hurricane force winds, heavy precipitation, and frequent lightning. As dangerous as these can be, it is the magical effects which are most feared. Creatures caught unprotected in a warpstorm are mutated into twisted parodies of their former selves. Even if they manage to survive the storm, few survive the painful transformations for long. In the vicinity of a warpstorm, magic is unpredictable, if it works at all. From a distance, a warpstorm can be quite beautiful, featuring towering clouds filled with multi-coloured lightning.   Where warpstorms are full of energy and flashing light, Shadow Squalls are supernaturally dark and quiet. Where warpstorms twist and alter the physical body, shadow squalls mostly affect the mind and spirit. Legend tells of creatures that ride the winds of a Shadow Squall, preying on the darker thoughts and fears of unprotected creatures. Others, not believing that a mere absence of light and sound can drive people to madness, suggest that spirits within the storm (or perhaps the spirit of the storm itself) take great delight in driving its victims insane. Rarely, instead of attacking the mind, some shadow squalls seem to slowly drain all physical energy from its victims. An oncoming shadow squall can usually be predicted by a sharp drop in temperature, a deepening of shadows, and the formation of black and purple clouds.   While both Warpstorms and Shadow Squalls tend to follow the coast of the Sea of Niniesh counterclockwise, the path of a Chaos Tempest is not so predictable. Some Chaos Tempests only last a handful of minutes, while some have been reported as long as week or more. Their effects are just as widely varied. A hail of semi-precious stones is just as likely as each blossom on a rosebush to start singing a rousing song. Not all tempests are so benign however: water transforming to acid, blood suddenly boiling, or limbs turning to stone can all have deadly effects.
