osupa-Faamloga

The primary religion of the vai-Samaoufaimall is osupa-Faamloga (forgiveness from the moon). Osupa is the primary god of the religion. As a coastal community, vai-Samoufaimall are regularly subjected to the wrath of the ocean. As the ocean itself has no godly presence, the people of the island have instead noticed that the moon travels to the southern edge of the sky when the storms become more prevalent.   While the moon does not typically generate a lot of worship, he is divine as all planes are, by caring a Breath. He also is not typically in contact with the people of Rhina, and the vai-Samoufaimall are no exception. They rigorously track which actions lead to longer or shorter times between storms, what tends to precede the migration of the moon to the south, and what helps him return. It is largely agreed that begging the forgiveness of the moon leads to his return. Valuable sacrifices to the ocean sometimes leads to forgiveness, although meditation and ritual connection is easier and likewise accepted. As for what precedes hard times and the rejection of the moon, this has not been largely agreed upon. Each community, and indeed sometimes each person has their own superstitions that guide their everyday lives and hopefully maintains peace with the moon.

Structure

osupa-Faamloga follows the same structure as the vai-Samaoufaimall culture, with community leaders guiding to the people. The religion has both a personal and communal aspect, and many rituals are celebrated at both levels.
