Splenkhammer

A game of Gnomish origin, Splenkhammer is played by two teams of 7. The aim is to destroy the goalpost of the opposing team, or to deal the most damage to it under the time limit.   The goalpost is traditionally made of a lightweight material, usually a length of fabric stretched on a canvas standing on a pole. The post can only be harmed by the ball itself named the Splenk, made of a very sturdy metallic substance. Furthermore, the Splenk cannot be physically handled by the players themselves. The players must guide the Splenk using special tools-- the original iteration of the game used hammers, and thus Splenkhammer gets its name.   The Splenkhammer is entirely custom. Different teams have different preferences. Elves prefer an almost cue-like stick, allowing precise and swift manoeuvres with the Splenk, while dwarves wield literal hammers for stunning shots. Humans are more bat oriented, halflings gravitate towards a pan-like racket, goliaths use encased fist shaped gauntlets, and so on.   Each team consists of magic and mundane players, though restrictions are in place. Firstly, the magic users can only use a set selection of basic cantrips which are set before the match. The magic may only be used on the Splenk; i.e. electrifying it or decreasing its weight. Secondly, the players are not allowed to get physical or violent with opponents.... except through the use of their Splenkhammers.   Last, but not least: is the pitch itself. The chosen spells, Splenkhammer types and team compositions make every Splenkhammer match unique, but the one consistent rule is the pitch. A Splenkhammer pitch always has magically reduced gravity, allowing fancy airborne stunts, reduced risk from falls, and spectacular clashes between teams. More often than not, the winners of Splenkhammer are not the first to destroy the opposing goal... but the first to win over the audience's hearts.
