Half-Elf

I'm not a kid, I'm nineteen! I don't get why people think looking so young is a good thing...
-- Rufus Von Capella
Half-Elves, as usual, are stuck between their closed-in elven communities or advanced human civilisations. Most stick to the latter, given their willingness to accept outsiders. Some half-elves find themselves acting as mediators between the secluded elves and… pretty much everybody else.
Half-Elves have no ancestral home or province of origin and instead are found scattered across the continent. Generally speaking, half-elves are most commonly found living alongside other races in human or gnome-populated cities. They share this trait with Changelings and displaced Half-Orcs, and the three races have a history of bonding over ‘only’ half-human sympathies.
Unfortunately out of the three, Half-Elves are the most prone to jealousy and bullying: Elves look down on their human blood, whilst humans envy their Elven talents. One would think such an old, backwards attitude would have lessened over the years with the increased intermingling of races. It certainly has with Tieflings, Aasimar and other unusual half-human hybrids. But alas, the Elves’ tendency to remain exclusive have kept some prejudices going, to the detriment of kinder-hearted Elves and… pretty much everybody else.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Half-Elves appear similar to humans physiologically, albeit with lither builds and shorter average heights reflecting their elven ancestry. A half-elf's ears are as short as human ears, but end in a point. Unlike elves, half-elves express facial hair. Half-elves live and age slower than humans do, reaching maturity in their early 20s and looking fairly young until their first century.
Genetic Ancestor(s)
Lifespan
Mature in late teens, lifespan of up to 160-180 years

Half-Elf Impresisons

When seen positively: The best of both worlds, the flexibility of humanity with the potent magic and grace of the Elves. Most assume that talent comes naturally to them.
When seen negatively: All the unkind things that come with the fact that one of your parents ran off and had fun with a magical forest hippie. Unreliable and unpredictable.
