City Gnome

City Gnomes, formerly known as Rock Gnomes, were renamed so as they are the second most commonly folk seen in cities like Gran Veritas. Their natural adeptness at tinkering makes City Gnomes the greatest inventors and craftsmen around. Since the great Industrial Revolution -- which was kick-started by a City Gnome, no less -- Gnomes have migrated to Eterna en masse and populate much of the province alongside humans. Many high academic and government positions in Gran Veritas are held by City Gnomes, and stay that way over their several hundred-year lifespans.

Basic Information

Anatomy

City Gnomes are short, quick and clever. They look like small, childlike humanoids-- although unlike elves who retain youth into old age, a gnome will visibly grow older as the centuries pass them by. Wild, bushy hair and bright eyes are a common trait of City Gnomes.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

City Gnomes tend to have names vaguely related to a profession or action. Most City Gnome names and surnames are instantly recognizable for their three-syllable structure composed of two nouns or sounds.   Male Names: Dabbledob, Fronkin, Fibblestib
Female Names: Ellywick, Reddlepop, Tippletoe
Surnames: Nucklestamp, Silverthread, Boondiggles

City Gnome Impressions

When seen positively: Gnomes are inquisitive geniuses, the best scientists, arcanists and academics around. Much of modern-day innovation is credited to City Gnome ingenuity.   When seen negatively: Annoying happy-co-lucky party animals who are too clever for their own good, all talent and no hard work, gripping onto noble titles of academia with their long lives if only to deprive the shorter-lived races of any chance of acknowledgement.
