Personal history

She grew up in a fairly affluent, upper-middle class family, but never left the area around Stillwater, eventually going to the University of Stillwater for a communications degree. She chose to go into social work, recognizing her privilege as a seadweller, and trying to use to make things better for the landdwellers on Retika, since at the time of her upbringing, they were considered second-class citizens.   Shortly after she turned 19 (at an age of approximately 67 Sol Standard Years), the Landdwellers staged a massive coup d'état and overthrew the oppressive Seadweller government, and forced the majority of the seadwellers to evacuate Retika.   During the evacuation, her older brother, Usho, and her younger sister, Amina, were killed when their shuttle was fired upon by the angered landdwellers.   She and her older sibling, Rikene, and her then sister-in-law, Iridana Arkaya , wandered the Beta Quadrant for some time, but due to the unstable political situation in the nearby Romulan space following the Hobus supernova, they chose to seek shelter in the other direction. However, they were unable to find a suitable planet for them that was not already occupied by a civilization.   Eventually, Iridana and Rikene, consumed by their grief and hatred, started to wage a war on any land-dwelling species. Crishia, appalled by this, struck out on her own in a small, warp-capable shuttle, after unsuccessfully trying to talk the other angry Seadwellers out of their ideas.   Led by Iridana, who was starting to show signs of megalomania, the Seadwellers returned to a heavily populated world with a good amount of livable shallows for them, determined to exterminate the local population and start using the planet as a staging area to retake Retika.   Crishia saw that the seadwellers were outnumbered, and their technology was similarly matched, so she assumed that the Seadwellers would be the ones to lose the fight.   She left the Retikan refugees and started flying through Klingon space, initially hoping to find shelter among them, but was discouraged by the Empire's reputation as a warrior race. At this point in time, the Romulans were still in disarray from the destruction of their homeworld, so they weren't an option for assistance.   She was attempting to make through Federation space, to the unexplored region of the Alpha Quadrant, but was attacked by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey just outside of Starbase 157.   A Federation vessel in the vicinity picked up her distress call and rescued her, but her shuttle was too heavily damaged to be of any further use to her.   Destitute and grieving, she begged the commander of the ship and Starbase 157 for asylum, which the readily granted. She was relocated to a housing development on the shores of Italy on Earth, since that was close enough to her home climate.   She spent approximately two Earth years attempting to fit in with the culture on Earth, but she found that she missed being among the stars and found that being on land was too constricting, so she applied to enroll in Starfleet Academy, contacting the captain who rescued her for her sponsorship.   She was accepted and was posted to the USS Khitomer, upon graduation.   By the time the events of STO occur, she was the vessel's chief tactical officer, and third in command, known for her ability stay calm under pressure. After the Khitomer returned from the Borg attack on Vega, she was granted her own ship, the USS Homeric, and a promotion to commander.   By the Earth year 2410, she has ascended to the rank of Fleet Captain, and commands the U.S.S. Sappho, a Manticore-class Heavy Destroyer.
