Benefits for high Settlement ratings

I think we might need a separate forum, with threads for each rating.   https://newarakus.proboards.com/board/226/settlement-ratings

for the sake of this conversation, couldn't we leave this particular conversation there?

I like the idea of building an article for each rating. That seems to work pretty well. In the main article we could build a description, rules and maybe a picture that makes sense, and debate them in the comments.   I can start working on these unless someone else wants to take a stab at in their world and I could approve them and move them to the main world.   Any takers?

I can take a stab

I've started on this but want to get some feedback before I keep going. I have 1 master article called "Settlement Ratings" which outlines the 10 different ratings and links to each one individually. This article gives some brief description of each, like this:   Settlement Ratings are the unique set of attributes which describe each player's clan and settlements. In total, there are 10 different Settlement Ratings:
  • Cosmopolitan - represents the degree to which the settlement has representation from and acceptance for people from outside of the settlement and/or clan.
  • Defense Rating - represents the degree to which the settlement is able to defend itself from outside threats.
  • Education - represents the overall intellectual level of the settlement as well as the degree to which the populace transfers knowledge and skills to one another.
  • Fame - represents the degree to which the clan is recognized or known when travelling outside of their own settlement.
  • Health - represents the physical state of the populace within the settlement, largely driven by the settlement's cleanliness and ability to prevent disease, famine, etc.
  • Info Net - represents the degree to which the settlement's leaders are able to keep apprised of new (and sometimes confidential) information from outside of their settlement.
  • Law and Order - represents the degree to which the populace within the settlement abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the settlement's leaders.
  • Populace Morale - represents the mental and/or emotional state of the populace within the settlement, largely driven by their enthusiasm for or confidence in the direction of the settlement and its leaders.
  • Standard of Living - represents the quality of life and/or material comfort of the clansmen in the settlement.
  • Traffic - represents the number of people who travel to or through the settlement on average.

Then there will be a separate article for each one. Here is an example of what could be included in each, using Education as the example:   Description   Education represents the overall intellectual level of the settlement as well as the degree to which the populace transfers knowledge and skills to one another.   Rules for Play
  • Minimum Rating: 1
  • Maximum Rating: 10
  • Destiny Earned: 1.5 per rating
  • Raise Destiny: Administration action, costing 100 pennies and 2 destiny per Current Rating
  • Benefits and Drawbacks   At the beginning of each turn:
  • Clans with Education rating of 10: One random clansman opens a random Knowledge/Lore from another random Clansman.
  • Clans with Education rating of 8 or higher: All Training & Research rolls are at advantage for this turn.
  • Clans with Education rating of 3 or lower: All Training & Research rolls are at disadvantage for this turn.
  • Clans with Education rating of 1: One random clansman takes -2 to a random Knowledge/Lore that they current have.

Then we could debate the rules on each article - especially the "Benefits and Drawbacks". Any thoughts on the structure before I build out the rest of them?

I think it all looks fantastic. One very small nitpick:   Defense Rating - represents the degree to which the settlement is perceived to be able to defend itself...

An initial version of all of these is available in my world if you want to copy them to this world so we can debate

I'm assuming that was directed at Danny.

Yes, whoever can copy it over. I don't think I can.

I think another benefit of high Settlement ratings could be that you can train certain Talents without a trainer. For instance, a high Health rating could allow you to train in Die Hard, Faster Healing, Last Gasp, (Night Vision?), Rocky and True Grit. You wouldn't get Advantage to the roll unless you have a trainer, but you could roll straight up without a trainer.
