Summer Destiny Game rules/format discussion

I added a tab to the Google Doc that has the summer items in our usual format, labeled Summer 616. They aren't in the right order, and we might want to change the bid type on one or more of them. I also added a few notes in the Merric column of the main page.   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PaNdu_z_SEH1gpt1jyVWEpU4LBMdM_LHia5ERmOoUIc/edit#gid=502009437

We need to define The Harp-Reversed, The Deuce of Swords-Reversed and the Queen of Flames-Reversed. We also need to determine how much money Cornucopia is worth.

There's actually 10 that need to be defined.....those that have text, if not green are technically not official...at least that was what was said sunday night.

THE HARP DESCRIPTION - A musician is tuning his harp, preparing to play to an unseen audience. He is clad in many–coloured garb and a jaunty hat sits at an angle on his head. Half his face is masked. He has not noticed that one of his strings is broken. An hourglass lies at his feet.   DIVINITORY MEANING - Associated with swords, and sometimes the god Siém, the harp may indicate an artistic person, or simply demand artistry and skill for a particular challenge. Effectiveness demands preparation — this seems well in hand, timing is everything.   REVERSED - The harp reversed warns against lack of preparation or of becoming too immersed in technique at the expense of objective. The Harper’s preparations may be inadequate, he may be so busy trying to tune the harp, that the performance never begins. This may or may not be a good thing. The end may or may not justify the means.   Maybe The Harp-Reversed means that your clan can do no Actions this turn.

"There's actually 10 that need to be defined.....those that have text, if not green are technically not official...at least that was what was said sunday night." True

DEUCE OF SWORDS DESCRIPTION - Two swordsmen are locked in combat with their golden swords. Neither seems to have the advantage, both are wounded and seem weary, but they seem determined to see it through.   DIVINITORY MEANING - Forces in balance, a stalemate. Such a situation may last a long time, depending on the determination and good will of the participants. Can indicate a treaty or truce.   REVERSED - Warns of a conflict that cannot be resolved peacefully, requiring the extinction of one of the parties. This may or may not be a situation that should be avoided.   The two Deuces that are defined give a plus or minus to a type of NPC faction relationship. I think the Deuce of Swords should do the same, especially after reading the description.

QUEEN OF FLAMES DESCRIPTION - Also called the Orange Queen or the Five of Flames. The orange-clad queen sits on her throne. Around her feet, five large candles are arranged in a semicircle. A salamander lays in the queen’s lap.   DIVINITORY MEANING - Representative of a mature woman, often a wife and mother, a matriarch or family head. The queen is a catalyst to success, perhaps a power behind the throne, a factor that may be missing. The queen does not seek glory, but can motivate others to carry her favour and enjoy success themselves.   REVERSED - Someone in the background may be working in opposition. This figure may not be particularly well hidden, or even hidden at all, but s/he is there and should be found if the enterprise is to proceed.   Maybe the straight-up gives you an ally in another faction that can help you militarily or politically, and the reverse gives you an enemy that will either work against you politically or may actually try to attack one of your clan members. You might have to track them down and deal with them.

I'd be willing to take all of the cards this turn. How about I bid zero on all of the negatives and one on all of the positives, and everyone else bid one on the negatives and zero on the positives?

I'll pass, i'll likely not strike any deals this turn. Dealing last turn didnt really get me anywhere but backwards.
I think the harp negative is you cant get any positive relationship or work on any relationship for the turn.

"'I think the harp negative is you cant get any positive relationship or work on any relationship for the turn."   works for me...but seems a bit weak... And it doesnt fit the opposite of the postive harp (Ceremonial Event)

"I think the harp negative is you cant get any positive relationship or work on any relationship for the turn. works for me...but seems a bit weak... And it doesnt fit the opposite of the postive harp (Ceremonial Event)"   It also doesn't seem to fit the description very well, imo. Maybe the hourglass represents him needing to spend 25 days on Actions and he doesn't get advantage.

My suggestion for the Harp:   The Harp (Reversed) - You must conduct 2 (3?) Settlement Administration actions of your choice this turn. Each of these actions is at disadvantage.
Sat, May 27th 2023 02:43

Way too strong. That could potentially cost you thousands of pennies and lots of Destiny, and your ratings could go down.
Sat, May 27th 2023 02:47

Since you got to pick the action, I would assume you'd pick the one that cost the least. I was also thinking, with disadvantage, you could still do a 25 day mission to treat it like a 10 day mission.   To your point though, maybe it could just be 1 action instead of 2 or 3.

I guess I don't like forcing someone to do an action. I'd rather deny them.

at one point in time we had a loose definition of the face cards   Ace - King - dealt with settlement ratings Queen- dealt with plots Knight - dealt with actions Page - Clansmen and leigemen Duece- Relationships?   I don't know if the above is accurate and if we are following that with the cards that have been built (green) but I like the concept.

Yes, looking at the current list, it seems:
  • Ace = mostly undefined but typically some ref determined/ref negotiated significant event
  • King = Settlement Ratings
  • Queen = Information gathering of various sorts
  • Knight = Action modifiers
  • Page = Clansmen/Liegemen
  • Deuce = Relationships
  • Named cards = all unique and with high impact

I think we need more Open Auction items. Only 1/3 of the items this turn are open. Too many are Hidden. I also think we need to use Settlement Ratings more, and dice rolling. In the past, we had items on which we spent Destiny (hidden), added our Settlement Rating (hidden), rolled a d10 (hidden) and announced the total. Highest total won. We also sometimes went around the table and bid up our Destiny until we each reached our max, then rolled a d10 and added our Rating. Highest total wins. We could also have an item or two where we just roll a d10 and add our rating. Highest wins.
