Magic Items

If someone (acoma) could post his notes on how they identified, that'd be great.   The ring hasnt been identified yet, neither has the amulet, i am waiting on esperanza to do divination.   My opinion:   This items would be single pick items, and your only item you'd receive
  • Broadsword
  • Short Sword
  • Grimoire
  • These items would be 2 for 1 or maybe 3 for 1.
  • Javelin
  • Medallion
  • Cane
  • Horn
  • Spear
  •   Once we identify ring and amulet, if they both fall under the minor list...Acadia could have 1 minor item.   Each clan could have 1 major or 2 minor, and merric could have 1 major and 2 minor or 4 minor.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 02:39

I personally believe we should just snake draft the magic items. In my mind, value is not some absolute thing but could be different for different clans. Some clans may place the value of the spear or javelin higher than the swords or grimoire, for example.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 03:48

Be honest, i'm not a fan of the snake, because some of the items should go to particular people, because of the groups general betterment.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 04:36   Edited on Mon, Aug 7th 2023 11:24

Another thought i had... we will have approximately 23k in money. To make it fair, to get an idea how much folks value things. Lets have an auction.   4600p each.   Randomly roll the order of the items. Bid from the money we have. Each time a person wins an item, put that money in a kitty. Lets say after all items are won. and a total of 20k is spent.   Re-divide the money giving 4k to each player.   So someone who doesn't bid on anything would end up with 8600, someone who bid all their money got 1 or 2 items and 4k   And no this isnt complicated, maybe the way i explained it is...thats my fault....
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 04:43

I like the idea of an acountion. Would we allow people to potentially spend beyond what they made on this mission, i.e. spending all of their pot plus some from their settlement?
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 04:57

no, i think we divide up 23000 five ways (4600 each) and thats what you can spend, to keep it fair. Before that we need to decide on what acadia is getting beyond the furs
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 05:04

  • 1. Broadsword
  • 2. Grimoire
  • 3. Short Sword
  • 4. Medallion
  • 5. Horn
  • 6. Walking Cane
  • 7. Javelin
  • 8. Amulet
  • 9. Spear
  • 10. Ring acadia has.
  • Mon, Aug 7th 2023 10:24

Obviously we need every item identified first, but we could either do the Acountion, or each clan could list their top three, and we could see what that looks like. We might be able to negotiate a resolution. Whatever we do, I think Acadia should get an equal share. He risked his life as much as anyone else, and contributed a lot to the overall success of the mission.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 11:24

are you referring to the ring and amulet? if so i agree. But I offered a few times to identify the ring, and Acadia isnt budging. I dont think Acadia should get a full "share" of magic. We can decide what to give him. Just as you decided what to give folks on the ruins mission. But this was a treasure map that was the groups (not acadia's) treasure. He was invited along as a courtesy wasnt he?
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 11:30

    You make some good points.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 11:45

my suggestion would be Acadia tell us 3 or 4 of things he wants....if one of those items isnt like a super pressing thing for a clan (like the 3 biggies), we just vote and give him one.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 11:45

I'll ask Smoky to find out if i can cast identify on the ring. But that will eat up another gem.
    Mon, Aug 7th 2023 11:53

If you have any gems close to 100, I suggest you use your gems, and we can compensate you from the treasure. That would be more efficient than using a possible 150-200 gem from the treasure.   Danny, if Dhrakoth uses a 200 gem to cast the spell, would it fracture the gem and reduce it to a 100 value gem, or does it consume the whole gem?
    Tue, Aug 8th 2023 12:47

I don’t have gems. Have already used these gems. I’ve asked Danny to allow me to make appraise rolls to determine how close
    Tue, Aug 8th 2023 12:48

There. Are plenty. And any I roll terribly on and don’t feel confident. I skip
    Mon, Aug 14th 2023 09:47   Edited on Mon, Aug 21st 2023 12:27

Was hoping Acoma would post his notes, but i'll post points about each item
  • 1. Broadsword
  • [*]a Jmorvi Focus that could hold spells and arcane energy
[*]It will take significant time to attune to this item
[*]It holds charges and can be recharged.
[*]This item needs more research. it is a significant magic item
A broadsword that looks serviceable and is covered with runes on the blade and hilt. It is lighter than it looks like it should be. Holds several charges (probably spells), significant item,
  • 2. Grimoire

  • 3. Short Sword
  • [*]Jmorvi made
[*]The Defender. Advantage to all block rolls. Higher quality
[*]History- was owned by a person of prominence
A well made thick short sword with odd runic designs in the hilt an cross guards Jmorvi, Corani History, advantage to all block rolls, no charges, high quality
  • 4. Medallion
  • [*]No need to recharge Drawbacks makes you nervous,
[*]This could be really good or really bad A simple praise of Crador will attune it
[*]It could give you good fate or bad fate like a flip of a coin
A worn copper medallion the size of child's palm. On one side is carved an image of the sun with a pleasant face, on the other side is carved a moon with a sinister face. Kuboran, flip the coin, depending on side up it's either a 1 or a 10.
  • 5. Horn
  • [*]Origin = Jarin (Jenath)
    [*]once per day
    [*]Made for a great warrior
[*]It’s at least 200 years old
[*]Basically the “wolf howl spell” it causes fear in enemies and rallies allies
An Ivory horn with carvings of wolves inlaid on the surface: 1 charge a day, cast a spell that scares enemies and emboldens allies.
  • 6. Walking Cane
  • [*]The item avoids detection but has no special abilities
    [*]No charges needed
    [*]It was Jmorvi built,
A thick metal walking staff about as long 3 feet tall. On closer inspection you see the walking staff’s handle is actually a small warhammer, its handle inlaid with brass. If you gently pull the handle the walking staff reveals its secrets even further, and a slender sword emerges from its hidden scabbard. Jmorvi built, no drawbacks, no charges, easliy passed off as a cane.
  • 7. Javelin
  • [*]built by a Jmorvi mage
[*]+1 to hit, higher quality, +1 range category
A javelin made from Ivory, brass, and steel. It does not have a lot of ornamentation but is well made. No drawbacks, +1 to hit, +1 Range, Jmorvi Mage, made by Specter in previous life, Higher Quality, Arcane.
  • 8. Amulet

  • 9. Spear
  • [*]Higher weapon quality, +1 to hit
    [*]Corani Origin
[*]Could be historically important to a collector
Spear with Jaegar +1 to hit, Corani Importance, Higher Quality, No Drawbacks, Arcane
  • 10. Ring acadia has.
  • [*]It was made my Navehian Clerics and must have had some Jmorvi crafters as well.
[*]It’s main function is that it holds a Morgathian Ritual. This ritual would give you the power to make suggestions to another person. Probably not very complex suggestions but they could be important. It would be more effective if the person was asleep when it was tried.
[*]It does not seem to be cursed but it definitely has a Navehian feel to it. It is a religious item as well as a mechanical one.
[*]It can be used once per 24 hours.

In general, I’m interested in the Broadsword, Walking cane, spear, and javelin. I’d like to know about all the items before deciding.
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 02:15

I’m also interested in the engineering books.
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 02:31

Merric is interested in the swords, the grimoire, the cane and the amulet.
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 09:30

Varock is interested in grimoire, broad sword, and Naveh ring
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 12:27

To Acoma, not entirely sure, other than the amulet, we are going to be able to get more information, any time soon
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 01:06

But the amulet could be something big, right? Is anyone looking into the Grimoire? And is the ring on the market? Or is Acadia keeping it?
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 01:13

correct.....im making rolls on it now and will inform asap..it makes me a bit worried, i am afraid its a focus, and may trigger the specter..so gotta be careful.   Anything that we agree on, will be tentative based on the results of the amulet identification...as for the books, they will fall under the mundane stuff...and I also have interested in the engineer books, as i have a master engineer, but im sure we can work something out.
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 06:56

Does the cane contain a rapier, a shortsword, or a different blade?
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 07:48

i believe smokey mention it was a short sword, then someone suggested rapier...but i dunno....that was in the voice conversation
I thought it was a rapier. Arakasi fights with a rapier.

    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 09:37
i believe you are right..but i think originally it was short sword, but based on the description, we convinced smokey it should be rapier.

    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 09:38
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 09:53

If Dhrakoth decides not to identify the amulet, is there any other clan with someone nearby who could?
    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 09:57

timador was supposed to do a divination on it back at the cave. that hasnt happened, so i doing undead and arcane research on it...to see if its possibly a focus...i dont want to re-release it on this island accidentally... if i get the feeling its not a focus i'll do an identify.
Yes the cane had a rapier in it

    Fri, Aug 18th 2023 11:16
    Sun, Aug 20th 2023 08:58

I'm interested in the grimoire, The short sword of defense. But the thing my clan want the most is the horn.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 04:03

Merric would like to get the short sword and the cane.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:54   Edited on Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:55

Latest proposal, based on what folks have posted or said, Acadia, Merric and Timador are good with this, leaving Acoma/Varock   Dhrakoth
  • Broadsword
  • Merric
  • shortsword
  • Cane
  • Acoma
  • Javelin
  • Spear
  • Varock
  • Naveh Ring
  • Agrikan Mace to use or dispose of at will (no this wasnt part of this treasure, but to put some balance.
  • Some think the ring is major, some do not....this is a happy medium.
  •   **Timador
  • Horn
  • Amulet
  • Acadia
  • kuboran amulet
  • Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:58

Here are the amulet properties.   Lore - Neutral Lore Origin - The specter created using his Jmorvi ability Charges - Takes 10 days and 1000d to charge, a jmorvi caster is cheaper Drawbacks - there does not seem to be any drawbacks Abilities - It holds arcane energy (a battery). ref note- I would like to discuss this further with the group, for now it holds 1 full fatigue point. So from a gaming standpoint it would soak up fatigue before the player would.   ** When you cast a spell, you decide on whether you want to draw from this battery for the fatigue or your own...if the spell pulls to much it just bleeds to yours   ex. if it has .4 left, and you cast a spell drawing from this and the spell costs .6, it drains the battery and takes .2 from you.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 01:09   Edited on Mon, Aug 21st 2023 01:14

I'm not good with it. I don't think the mace should be part of it. Give Varock the Grimoire instead.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 01:31

He expressed interest in the ring.... The ring and grimoire together seems like a huge chunk..if others are fine, i wont complain. And ofcourse if Varock is fine with ring/grimoire...I still think the condition of letting us schedule some time with it at a later date with his approval would be nice.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 01:31

Who gets the mace (yes I know a different topic, but while its fresh.)
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 01:38

"I still think the condition of letting us schedule some time with it at a later date with his approval would be nice."   I agree.     "Who gets the mace (yes I know a different topic, but while its fresh.)"   I don't know. We need to go back over everything we've found and see if we have other resolved stuff. For instance, we got this warrior's armor as well. I don't think we've tried to detect magic on it yet. Did we try to detect on the figurine?
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 02:37

Spread them out and i'll detect magic..i know i did on the kuboran amulet that was in the dracofellas cave.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 04:41

Varock probably has the figurine at his settlement. Since I have the mace here, I probably have the armor as well. I don’t recall the Kubora amulet.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 05:16

well we can assume its here since i detected on it..DOH.   I texted Varock and he said he'll be back by friday, but i told him if he had a chance to log on , he has some questions directly..he said in a few hours today he'd try.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 07:14

Someone mentioned finding the family of the former cane owner and seeing if his family would compensate for the cane. Imo, that would just create a lot of questions and open a can of worms we don’t want opened.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 07:21

If you get the cane, that would be your decision.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 08:11

I’m just thinking for the good of everyone, we should avoid connecting these items with their former owners’ families.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 08:34

So you dont plan on giving some of the Kuboran mundane items to the Kuboran?
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 09:07   Edited on Mon, Aug 21st 2023 09:11

Good point, but I don’t see the Kuborans as a threat, compared to the Agrikans. Returning something that was known to be taken in battle or from a captive is different from returning something from a facility that belonged to the owners of the items. I doubt the Kuborans would ask what location they came from. Agrikans and Coranis might. For instance, the Suyari won’t be coming to the island. It belongs to a different tribe.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 09:08

I’m good with the ring and grimoire if you all are. Let me know if you think it’s too much? I’m also good with the grimoire potentially being somewhat temporary until I can fully learn from it and then pass it around.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 09:20

That leaves Acoma...If he is happy with Javelin and Spear, we can call this a done deal...and thats fine Varock..i'd say make it yours, but allow us to come study at your settlement
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 09:52

I guess I feel like I’m getting the short end of the stick (by just a bit). I feel like the broadsword, short sword, grimoire, and amulet are all big things. I’m getting two middle pieces. I realize we all see things differently.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 09:54

I understand thats why we all have to agree. Make another suggestion? Anything that is random, draft or auction could potentially cause rifts. That i dont want to see..why i'd prefer seeing an agreement..that w are all amiable to?
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 10:00

One other thing, keep in mind all group missions (not the ruins which was a merric mission) not all treasure items will be equal, someone will always get the short end of the stick (or feel they have) and they can use that as justification on the next allocation.. No i am not trying to convince you take the javelin/spear...just an observation
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 10:03

I agree with Dhrakoth about the future considerations. Merric would support you getting a little preferential treatment.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 10:06

Where is the cane? I am very interested in that for Arakasi. He fights with a rapier.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 10:11

The cane is currently allotted to Merric (I really like it for Cebert in Golotha), but if you want to swap the javelin or spear out for it, I could do that.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 10:14

So are wanting the short sword (big item) and cane (medium item)? I’m thinking the auction may be the most equal way of doing things.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 10:18

I think he is banking on losing a character for a little extra something something. You recall that conversation we had last night? You werent the one that said he got himself killed were you ? :) personally i like the precedence, you lose a clansmen, regardless of reason you get bonuses.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:00

"I think he is banking on losing a character for a little extra something. "   Yes, that was the talk I heard. If we don't want to do that, I'm ok with it.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:08

Im fine with it...because of the precedence that is set...if i lose someone in an endeavor to better us all, i'd like to think i'd be compensated.   I mean the short sword + cane = his reward and minus one clansmen ??
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:46

If you’ll remember, I was the first person to say Merric deserved something extra for losing a character. I almost lost Jael, I know how it feels.
    Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:50   Edited on Mon, Aug 21st 2023 11:51

To make up your difference, maybe everyone ponies up 100 or 150 pennies to give you a little extra cash. Or, the next time we roll a treasure snake draft on a group mission, you get advantage.
    Tue, Aug 22nd 2023 12:03

Hey Merric, you should have kept all the small eggs, then Napolean would be alive!!
    Tue, Aug 22nd 2023 12:08

True. I think I was too generous.
    Tue, Aug 22nd 2023 03:45

To Acoma: how about the spear, the javelin and a +1 throwing dagger?
    Tue, Aug 22nd 2023 11:26

    Where is the dagger from?
    Tue, Aug 22nd 2023 11:53

I’ve had it for a while.
    Fri, Aug 25th 2023 02:11

Who let the crickets in here?
