Reverse - From your established replationships, take a negatve one (random) an event happens that takes you by surprise If no negative relationships...random relationship opens at -1 and becomes subject of card.

I like this suggestion also. Positive could be the inverse - From your positive relationships, a random positive event happens.   Current Deuce of Flames wording is around opening a Random Noble relationship. I still think we should have that card but it could move to a different Deuce card.

Game Play - A ref-determined, positive event occurs among one of your positive relationships. The relationship is chosen at random.   Reverse Play - A ref-determined, negative event occurs among one of your negative relationships. The relationship is chosen at random.

I think there shouldn't be so many conditions. I think the positive event could happen in any relationship, and so could the negative event.

Does it need to be among existing relations? Maybe it's with a to-be-opened relationship.

I kind of like it being an existing relationship, partly because there is no good way to randomize with 'all' relationships but also because it seems to me the card speaks to existing relationships verses opening new ones.

Yes it does gordo..has to be a known relation. "Someone is planning to take an unfair advantage." why would some random faction you've never had any dealings with mess with you? because they were hired? by someone that knows you?
