Greater Moon - Protasta

The larger of the two moons that circle Renúdetla. Although both the Greater and Lesser Moon - Vélos occupy the same night sky, their variance in pattern of orbit often shifts their positions in the heavens. The Greater is the only of the two that has the power to fully Eclipse the sun. The Greater moon's orbit reaches extends further into the stars than Vélos, which often passes in front of the the face of the Greater. As a result of these celestial movements, the powers of many magics of many species throughout the world wax and wane. Many species, spirits, and the magics they rely on, have taken advantage of the natural movements of the moons throughout the centuries. Many theories also indicate that although both moons play a role in the length of tides and day.
Most widely used calendars are based on the lunar cycle of Protasta and Vélos. A full cycle of Protasta occurs after the moon has waxed to a full moon, and completely waned to vanish for a full eight days. The entire cycle takes 40 days.

Geography

Although both the Greater and Lesser Moon vary in color throughout the seasons, the larger is more purple in color as a rule. When Protasta is full, Renúdetla is bathed in a bright violet light that illuminates the world in a surreal, vivid detail. As the larger of the two moons, Protasta is pock-marked and checkered in what appear to be wounds to the surface. Particularly in contrast to the comparably few scars on the face of Vélos; perhaps it is this reason that many religions point to the celestial body as a source of both spiritual and physical protection.

History

Called Protasta in many regions that surround the The Ornithian Empire, as a result of the influence of the Church of the One True God and worshiped as Diavna's archangel. Prior to the establishment of the Church of the One True God, there exists records of a spirit that roamed the world as a great oxen. Scripts that discuss the namesake of the Greater Moon more directly are unfortunately not present in many of the libraries of man today outside of those found in the of the Tomes of the One True God of the Church of the One True God. With that being said, according to the testaments of Diavna's earliest followers, as well as the Great Spirit Himself, it can be assumed that the two spirits enjoyed an amiable relationship.
