Lexean Consitution

Written by ReaverArklight

Purpose

The constitution is the document that defines how the government is meant to work, what rights and liberties are afforded to the members of the republic. In it also includes various firm guidelines for the law, the creation of new laws and what type of laws can be made. This document is a regulatory tool and prevents the government from doing whatever they want, provided the institutions that use it aren't themselves corrupt and the people that vote them in are well informed.

Document Structure

Clauses

Every part is divided into sections with specific Articles divided by subsections for instance rights falls under Rights & Liberties and Law creation is under 'Law & Legality. Each section is made as concise as possible with a lot of certain terminology but isn't completely successful in this.

Caveats

The Document is thousands of years old and has gone through multiple referendums, amendments and reversals. To say it has few caveats is like pointing out you breath. The document has various flaws in terms of terminology, lack of clarity and just straight up failure to address everything. This normally results in Drama, court cases, and costly mistakes.    Lexer is a True Democracy, and lives up to every possible annoyance, scummy tactic and bullshit you could expect but you can say one thin, they live up to the name.

References

The Constitution makes references to the American one, back when more of it was still around to read. The Document has an entire section in the first few pages where it mourns the Fallen country and thanks them for at least leaving this to inspire future generations, even if their not human to try and be better. The Document also references old Alicornnian lore and also has entire passages about how evil slavery is and must be exterminated at all costs.   As of 4483, the Document now also references various books that speak of Lexean Republicanism showing clear dedication to their ideology.

Publication Status

As silly as matters surrounding it can be, education of it is very public with libraries holding active lessons about it and it's standards and contents. It's a very public document, in fact it's so public. You could probably find a copy or two as far as Kalindor or in a place as isolated as Zintamia. It definetely annoys Unitarian and more autocratic governments and it certainly inspires ideas, complete with inspiring and moving speeches every so often.

Legal status

The Document is often held up as this near religious document, politicans fluff it up all the time before tryingto find some kind of wya to weasel they're way out of responsibilities. So long as the Courts enforce it's demands and standards, it's them ost powerful document in the land. The moment they cast it aside? It's a nice looking piece of paper.   It's a tool, nothing more.

Historical Details

Background

Despite being a government document, it is a major cultural Icon for Lexeans and an Republican's across the world who wish for the creation of a democracy.  To many it is the start of a new way forward and some wish to create their own versions for their own countries. It very much marks the foundation of Lexer and what would go  on to be the rowdy subject of the world's 1st largest Empire since Alicornia.

History

It was written by Adrain Verosa and about 50 other Men and Women who formed the first government and was the first true document of it's type with the predecessor being The Canterlot Accords. The document would go on to inspire generations of Republicans across the world who'd fight and die to see democracy brought into the world. Even being a contributing factor in the declaration of the Equestrian Civil War.   There is a lot of emotional context in this document and carries meaning for a lot of people.

Public Reaction

When it was first signed it was a huge cause for celebration so much so they created an entire holiday for it, known as Freedom Day. For Lexeans it was a first step on a long road to a perfect democratic union and the start of a society that may just stand the test of time and make the world a little brighter.

Legacy

As covered a little, a lot of Blood shed has happened and is happening in order to see similar things happen in other countries. The legacy of it is that while imperfect, subject to corruption and bullshit. There could be and should be a better standard and that governments should be accountable to the people they govern over. There are many memorials that memorialize the sacrifice that many have taken for Democracy including it's own section in the bottom that thanks the on going sacrifice for the pursuit of something better.
