Everfree Forest
Introduction
Everfree forest used to be the capital region of the Equestrian Empire and in those days it was known as Evergreen forest due to it legendary lush environments with wild life and flora that flourished even in the snowy winters. These days Everfree forest is a twisted Dark Wood filled with ruins, Demons and dangers. A Favoured spot for explorers, Monster hunters and fools alike.Geography
Forest is fairly large and is known for it's cliff overlooks, large forests and bumpy terrain. The best way to navigate the forest is by it's faded roads and by the rivers and streams. Trying to navigate the dense woods and shrubbery would only get you lost and with the limited vision of the sky as well as frigid nights and near constant threats by monsters you'd likely die trying to navigate these woods by any other way.
Ecosystem
The Forest appear to be a normal forest from the outside but inside is dangerous sentient thorny vines that strangle and tear apart intruders. There are various toxic flower blooms and plants with toxic mushrooms that spread contagious spores that could easily wipe out entire unprepared parties. Many animals here are in some way corrupted including the Everfree Widows which are spiders that hunt people down and harvest them for food.
Even the water it's self is dangerous as it is infested with man eating fish with some bodies of water being particularly corrupted by Dark magic and can inflict it's victims with spell plague. If one manages to avoid all of the hostile wild life around you then you must contend with various Tartarian Demons of many types and shapes and abilities.
Ecosystem Cycles
As the seasons pass into winter the forest gets colder and the green flora goes dormant which causes a temporary surge in Everfree Shroom caps which can make the forests air more dangerous to breath. Shadow Demon Stalkers also hunt in colder seasons as it is easier for them to spot prey from a further distance with less fauna making noise. Allowing them to pinpoint victims faster and more efficiently, killing them before the victim has a chance to respond.
Localized Phenomena
The Everfree Moon forges on full moons produce more powerful enchantments and runes due to their closeness to the Celestial Temple Ruins in Everfree Forest. It is also more likely to get nightmares while walking within the woods which only drains Explorer / Fighter's will ever further. Spell Plagues such as Shadow corruption are more common to come by and those afflicted can go on to inflict harm upon others in near by settlements such as ponyville.
Another feature is that Voodoo works very well here and the forest outskirts is very properly for Covens of Zebra Mages and Witch Doctors to come together and preform special rites and spells.
Fauna & Flora
Everfree is a pine and oak forest for the most part however it has a small presence of willow trees and a small swamp area to it's east. It also has Chinese Fir's, Plum Blossoms, Katsura trees and some other recognizable Chinese Flora. The deeper into the forest you go, the less natural it gets the fewer animals you can find which the animals are a mix of American and Chinese Fauna.
Natural Resources
There is obviously an abundance of Wood to be found here and there is a fair few minerals to be found in the woods and in the ground. Food can be found with animals and various fruits though one needs to be careful. It also has various alchemical ingredients and a lot of Aura crystals that Yorta attempts to gather in brief small scale resource acquisition operations that normally result in a skirmish between PMC's, Demons or Changelings.
Occasionally bandits run illegal mines at the edges of the forest, trying to gather resources which results in near constant fighting with PMC forces and Bandits.
History
Evergreen Forest was once the most lush and magical enchanted forest in the world and was one of the last bastions of what the world once was before Discord's rise. Many saw it as a cherished religious site and even created the Celestial Cathedral and the dungeon beneath which was intended to test devotee's faith. However it too like everything else in the forest has been turned to ruin and overgrown.
The loss of Evergreen City and the Forest caused the Equestrian Civil War and the many wars that raged on either during it or directly because of it. To this day, people morn the loss of Evergreen as the day that the world got a bit darker.
Tourism
As demented as it sounds, there is a minor tourist industry running where observation blimps would float over the forest and tourists get to look into the forest with telescopes while guides tell them the history. Yorta Run the company Behind it, which is the Happy Explorers & Co. As such these blimps normally come with Yorta security and most of the time these tours go without incident.
