Tornala's Tale

You ask me to tell you of the Chaos Elves. A reasonable request, considering you are going to the Accursed Island. Of course I know what really happened in those far flung times, I haven't forgotten any of it. For in the end we were so close to the true greatness that Yeno desired for our people, only to have it snatched away by Ashtyr and her reckless behavior.   As you know, Yeno created us, the greatest of all the children of the gods. We praised her, as well we should. We thanked her for our creation, our knowledge and the wonderful world of Cadash we inherited. Sadly the First Folk were less then accommodating. There were times when they refused to treat us with respect, and we were forced to make examples of them. They bemoaned to their great god, and he promised to send them champion wielding a great axe. We would soon know what was to become of that promised weapon.   Even then we were targeted with violence instead of reason. We asked our beloved creator to intervene, but she refused to. In her mind we had started the trouble with the first folk, and we must finish it. At that moment we began to realize that our Goddess was not interested in us any more. If there that been love for her creations it had perished. We were alone on Cadash facing hostile beast folk.   Magic was our only recourse. That is the key. Yeno showed us the ways of the arcane, gifted it to us. Kor created the first life, and his soul is bound into all of it. Nature is his power, and it is why the First Folk often struggle with learning arcane arts. But for Yeno's folk it comes naturally. And much like our grand goddess herself we desire to know more and more.   So we turned to the arcane to protect us. We started to expand what we learned for Yeno, bringing about new spells and powers. Some say that Yeno blessed us with these, but I don't believe that. She was bored with us by then. We also understood that there were other sources of magic on Cadash. For we know of the creation, even at the very start, Chaos had planted its seed among us.   It was then that wisest of the elves came together to seek out Chaos' seed upon this world. From time to time we would witness its workings. Undead are the most obvious signs. But we also witness aberrations in nature. We saw the beginnings of the cults of the Four. It was plain that there was untapped power within Chaos and we few could use it to bring about great change for all elves upon Cadash.   So we began our search for the very source of Chaos on this world. We sisters were part of this search, and it took us around Cadash into some lands that no longer exist. One day we were called back to the continent of Reluria. One of our wisest revealed that he had found the purity of Chaos and all had been revealed to him within the Sea of Dread.   Soon all of us came to hear and understand the truth of Chaos. It is untapped and pure power. All the stories you know about Chaos are lies granted by our "great gods". It is raw power. It is arcane, divine, natural all at once. With a strong will, one can wield Chaos bind it unto your very essence. Once that is done, you become something more than mortal.   You see now that we were the heroes of mortals. But the gods couldn't understand or accept that. Ashtyr created her children and the wretched champion to fight Chaos. And those fools refused to listen to reason. Red Talon only cared about killing and slaying every elf that didn't agree with her Great Goddess. Even those of us who were most steeped in Chaos were unable to truly die, but it didn't stop her from harming us in ways we couldn't imagine.   A true golden age was upon the world, and fear and ignorance tore it all away. It was very clear that the gods don't care about Cadash or the children they have put upon it. From what I can hear of your adventures there is nothing war, conflict and death. The ignorant blame Chaos, but power itself can do nothing. But those who wield it or chose to ignore it are the ones to blame.   It will take someone of true ambition, will and inspiration to pull Cadash from this darkness it is plunging into. Someone who knows the truth about actual power.
