To See Her Once Again - Irev's Rest
To see her once again, I would give anything. I have given everything. Holy Irev, whose knowledge spans all time, Can you see her upon your rest? Colossal and forbidden your seat is. The eagles below your throne, circling. Have they searched the seas for her? My path is direct and clear. Like the servants to your throne, I see only one path, but I see with both eyes. Dreams of her come each night. Fear to lose her in eternal night. She is brave. She is strong. I was the one who lacked. No more. I seek you, all knowing companion to the Moon. I will dwell below the throne, in the forbidden Colossa. I will come to know how to get my love back into my arms. Time will pass too quickly until I do. I will not meet her in the onyx paths. I will see her once again, with the sun of this land blazing on her face. So help me now Irev. The land is lush. The waters like wine. And time is slow. The path is so dangerous, but I must not fail. Rest no longer, but help your faithful servant - for I see only one path too, like the others. I know that the pain of loss burns hotter than dragon fire. The fire burns away reason and terror. I step upon the sea and... I see her once again.
- A Relurian Varient of the Tale translated from elvish
Summary
In all versions we hear the words of a lover asking Irev for help finding the lost partner. It contains strange imagery in all the versions and is thought to be a puzzle of some kind. Certain words remain in nearly every version, such as the mention of eagles circling below the throne of the god, and the servants who can see only one path. Dragon fire is mentioned at the end, and some include a line about a dragon protecting something.
It is the only known love poem to beseach the God of Knowledge.
Cultural Reception
Not a well known poem, but it is popular among bards who fancy themselves intellectual. There is a bard from the northern part of the duchy who made the poem into a melancholy love song, leaning into the aspect of Irev as the consort of Yeno and creating a parallel longing between the two couples.
