Priamos

You will be pleased to hear that we completed the last of the fortifications around Priamos two weeks ago. They were tested not two days later when a band of goblin raiders attempted to infiltrate the walls. Our men were not caught unawares. They detected the creatures, battled them and drove them back into the hills. Although some men were injured, this went far to demonstrate to the local Dorians that we mean what we say - we are here to protect them. I hope that this will bring them over to our side and even swell the ranks of the town guard. We will need more bodies when your road restored up to Green Mountain Pass.
- Excerpt from a letter from Lord Aurelian Priamos to Duke Kadmos I

Demographics

The original Dorian town of Godo was small, considered a backwater along the road toward the Everwood. Lord Priamos' arrival brought a whole host of Theosian knights, merchants and even farmers. But Dorians from around the Duchy have also come to get work on the lord's building projects, and continued prosperity when the Duke's Road is completed to the Green Mountain Pass. At this time, most of the military elements of the town are Theosian, and the workforce is mostly Dorian.

Government

Ruled by the Baroness Octavia Priamos on behalf of the Duke. Her Reeve (Strabo Ennomus ) and Sergeant at Arms (Acrisius Wolfbane) report directly to her, and handle most of the Baroness' concerns in the town.   A town council made of five prominent individuals (four Dorians and one Theosian) govern the towns administrative and mercantile issues. They meet monthly and report up to the Reeve.

Defences

Priamos is now protected by a stone wall replacing the old wooden palacade of Godo. It is a simple but sturdy affair with wooden watch towers built along it. Two on either side of the road creating a gatehouse of sorts. Two more towers watch over the docks. Two more face east toward the rolling Wulfwold Hills.   The road can be closed with a heavy wooden gate rolled between the towers. Priamos ensures that archers are in all the towers at all times, as well as having a watchman posted in the church bell tower. Archers are trained to signal the bell tower using a lantern, or sending a messenger to ring the church bell as an alarm.

Industry & Trade

At this point Priamos shows great potential for trade, but events keep standing in the way. The death of Aurelian put a stop to the major road renovations north of the town. Goods can be moved easily down the river from the town, but its main exports come from the surrounding farmland and some local timber. But the nearest town has similar resources in abundance.   It was Priamos' hope thet completing the Duke's Road would help get trade flowing from the north. But merchant caravans from the Dwarfen Kingdoms in the Anvil are few and far between. They are too busy dealing with unrest among the barbarian tribes and the Brass Horde to interact much with the Duchy.   Octavia hopes that by restoring the old fortress in Green Mountain Pass, she can create some trade among the soldiers stationed there. But the road must be completed and secure for any real trade to get off the ground.

Infrastructure

There are docks for riverboats and small cargo vessels along the Hillfollow river. These were newly improved by Lord Priamos and even include a small crane to help with heavy cargo deliveries.   The Duke's Road runs through the town and continues north toward Green Mountain Pass. Unfortunately renovation of the road halted three years ago with the death of Aurelian. Travel along the road has dried up as conflict in the north against the Brass Horde continues to escalate.

Architecture

Many of the buildings in Priamos are wooden. Stone was used for the surrounding walls built by the Theosians. It was also used for the smithy, the manor house and Temple of Ashtyr. The temple is the oldest stone building in the town. The Dorian villagers claim that parts of the building were built before the Cataclysm.   The first thing most people notice when entering Priamos for the first time is how the silver bell of the chapel to Ashtyr seems to gleam in the sun, the metal seeming to never dirty or blemish in any way. At night the same bell seems to glow slightly with a pale moonlight-like illumination. The few villagers that have been inside the temple at night, say that the statue of the goddess within behaves the same way.

Geography

Nestled among the Wufwolde Hills and along the Hillfollow River, Priamos is the last secure and civilized stop on the Duke's Road going north toward Green Mountain Pass.
