Mount Sems
"Aye, tat be ol Mount Sems. Always burning it is. Lucky you can see it so clear. Usually smoke and fog mix in this area, all you can see is the air over yonder orange and red. Nothing living on that mountain, hotter than a blacksmith's furnace it is. And they say that inside that mountain it is even hotter. You liable to burst into flames if you set foot on the crater. We steer clear of it. I get the feeling there is something angry living in there and I don't want to give it any reason to notice us."
- Merchant Sailor Navigator
Geography
This is the most prominent feature on Fire Isle, rising high over the sea and always glowing with magma. The mountain itself is blackened with the constant smoke and eruptions that occur every six months or so. From the sea no life can be seen on the mountain.
History
Elves first record the burning mountain during their flight from The Chaos Elves at the end of the second age. In old Elvish, the word sems could mean "ever bright" and was usually reserved for magical items that never lost their luster. The name Sems stuck all the locals refer to it with the old Elvish name now.
There are no known records of anyone climbing or exploring the volcano.
Tourism
Visitors are discouraged from approaching Fire Island and climbing Mount Sems. The unstable volcanic nature makes any recreation on the mountain something only the mad would attempt.
