Anubine

The ancient race of jackal folk.

Nyx stepped out of the shadows and I knew that moment I had underestimated my foe. She was Anubine, one of the jackal folk. Wearing black leather armor over her short dense midnight fur made her nearly invisible in the darkness. She moved with an easy grace, a curved dagger in each hand. Her jackal smile looked even more wicked in the firelight from the torches. I knew she was stronger and faster than me, so I kept my hands well away from my weapons. The look in her eyes told me she wasn’t interested in parlay, only blood would suffice.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Most Anubine use three letter names. Some that have adapted to city life use names like the humans in the area.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Anubine speak common as well as the Elder speech granted to them by Kor.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Anubine do live in pocket communities in the deserts and steppes of Reluria. They are nomadic and often follow herds of prey or make a living near oasis and waterholes. Many times they are found as traders or guards on caravans along overland routes in these parts of the continent.   Anubine can also be found in larger towns and cities because of their connection with trade. Because of their natural skills they are often employed as bodyguards or mercenaries. They also can be found in less reputable organizations within the city.

History

Anubine are one of the First Folk created by Kor at the dawn of Cadash. They were found in primarily in the deserts and steppes of Reluria, but they can be found across similar areas across Cadash, and have adapted well to civilized life in cities and large towns.

Common Myths and Legends

There are legends of an Anubine called Nyx who was one of the forces of Chaos that opposed Red Talon. Over time, it was understood that Nyx was a title, not an actual name for this infamous person. These days, female Anubine will take thee name Nyx to project an intimidating nature to those they face.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Anubine are most at ease with other First Folk, and get along surprisingly well with Lizardfolk and even Sakasta.   However they are not trusted by most other races. Elves and humans especially seems to have great distrust for Anubine, especially those who worship Ashtyr. The name of Nyx is often used as curse of sorts in those circles and that seems to have carried over to all Anubine (especially females).
