Phoug

The phoug is a traditional dish on Nephiglo, a fast-food version of which has been popularised by the intergalactic chain Minnatolds, who have branches on every inhabited planet in the Ponitis, Xaro and Bandeos systems, as well as ones on asteroids and outer space services. Their recipe varies slightly according to outlet location, taking into accounts available ingredients and local tastes, and has inspired plenty of further regionalised variations served by other restaurants.

The phoug itself is made out of czeye, a root vegetable which is filled with slightly spiced minced meat and deep-fried. Traditionally it was served in winter with pickled vegetables. The meat was usually orax or game meat, but modern versions on Nephiglo favour cruspin. Meat-free versions are also very popular.

Outside Nephiglo, the meat varies by region. The Minnatolds version has a variety of toppings and sauces, including pickles, fried onions and cheese; these are often options in other restaurants' versions too.
