Calendar

A stone goliath astronomer by the name of Caldon designed the current calendar to take the place of the Ienathe Royal Calendar when the High Kingdom collapsed. His primary concern was to establish a count of the years and a standard calendar to allow for accurate record-keeping. He built the calendar around natural cycles and arbitrarily made the year of the High Queen’s death year 0. Scholars refer to this modern era as the Caldon Era in his name.

The calendar divides the year into twelves months according to the lunar cycle with a week being the seven days it takes the moon to change phases. The months are named for the zodiac signs:

1. Sage (April) (1st day is the vernal equinox)
2. Throne (May) (15th day is midspring)
3. Key (June)
4. Flames (July) (1st day is the estival solstice)
5. Knight (August) (15th day is midsummer)
6. Euryale (September)
7. Rogue (October) (1st day is the autumnal equinox)
8. Gem (November) (15th day is midautumn)
9. Talons (December)
10. Jester (January) (1st day is the hibernal solstice)
11. Skull (February) (15th day is midwinter)
12. Balance (March)

Seasons

• On the Spice Coast, hurricane season lasts from Key to Gem with its peak during Euryale.
• In the south:
• Throne to Euryale is the hot wet season.
• Gem to Balance is the cool dry season.
• Sage and Rogue are transition months.
• In the north:
• Sage to Key is spring.
• Flame to Euryale is summer.
• Rogue to Talons is autumn.
• Jester to Balance is winter.
