Magister
The rank of Magister, or even Grand Magister, is a hard one to achieve. Hundreds of applicants are sifted through every year, and only a few are chosen to enter training to become one of the great mages that can fundamentally alter society.
Qualifications
Educational-only graduates can be accepted (Secondary only), and graduation from a Collegiate is preferred but not required. Applicants are also required to have results from a Magical Rank test in their area.
Requirements
Any applicant must show sufficient magical power; power can be of any type. Applicants also must be relatively intelligent and willing to work to make breakthroughs in their chosen field. They must also be human in some large part; i.e. a full-blooded Daemon cannot become a Magister.
Appointment
When a applicant has completed their apprenticeship, there is a ceremony with other apprentices to raise them collectively to the rank of Magister.
Duties
Magisters are supposed to put on a positive face as a whole, to reassure humanity both that greatness is possible and success is close at hand for everyone. For this reason, the research of most Magisters is available to the public.
Responsibilities
Magisters are expected to study and work in their field to change society or improve the outlook of humanity as a whole, and are usually monitored to make sure this is happening. Magisters tend to submit their report of progress to Grand Magisters or similar officals. On the other hand, some Magisters are able to get away with working little or not at all due to other government responsibilities.
Benefits
Magisters are given a more than decent wage; easily enough to raise a poor family to upper-middle class. Magisters are also considered part of the government of Mentross, and thus have access to most of the resources a government would have at its disposal.
Accoutrements & Equipment
All Magisters are given a dress uniform which is to be used during ceremonies, and taken care of when not in use. As well, there is a simple silver medallion that is used as identification for each Magister.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
If a Magister has not been working towards a goal, or researching anything at all, they will be dismissed. Usually the dismissal is quiet to prevent embarrassment, and the medallion of recognition is removed from their possession.
