Calandrin
The present capital of Onderal, Calandrin is either one of the longest inhabited cities in the North, or else the newest city of them all.
A Chaotic History
The north continent has a long history of being divided and shifted and adjusted and fought over and so on and so forth. A border map can go out of date inside of a year, either through war or treaty or environment. See The Great Love of Luthia Rose for one such shift. With those shifting borders comes new countries with new needs and usually at least one new city.
Calandrin is unique in that the name has remained the same, even as the city itself has risen and fallen and even been moved around the area.
A Matter of Dragons
Calandrin has always been close to dragons, for good or ill. In good times, it's a place where they gather in friendship, to communicate with the smaller races. In bad times, they raze it to the ground. This is by far the most common fate to befall Calandrin in its many iterations. Sometimes this is because the humans who lived there were aggressive. Sometimes it was because a dragon felt vicious.
It's a common enough disaster that many of the current buildings of the city are constructed with singed stones.
Mountains and Caverns
Calandrin is no longer located on a mountain, due to several various incidents. This has somewhat leveled the surrounding area, and left the city with a rather impressive underground area from a previous iteration of the city.
There are not as many layers as in some other locations, since the city has been moved a few times, but it is a rather spectacular layer of debris since the entire city was essentially shifted down a layer in the sphere. A handful of people live down there, but they are largely regarded as eccentric.
