The Unbound & Ancients

  • The Unbound
  • There are five fundamental constants in the universe: Ambition, Death, Judgement, Thought, and Time. These constants are present everywhere and at every moment. They had no form or function for an eternity. They existed before the start and will exist long after the end. For they are the Unbound. Entities that fear no destruction, nor worry of being forgotten. Entities that have no end. For an eternity the Unbound existed solely together, nothing but themselves. Then in a moment the universe was brought into existence. Time set the universal clock in motion, Thought created consciousness for the first lifeforms, Judgement created the scales of balance, Death created age and endings, Ambition created desire and wonder. Through their combined efforts the universe that we will soon come to know was created.
  • The Ancients
  • The Unbound were unable to fully experience the universe they created, as their entities were unable to be confined into such a small space. They each created an initial being to their own preference. These initial beings have complete control over the universe. They can alter reality with a minor thought, establish laws in the universe that every other being must follow, and have power that can only be challenged by one of their own. These initial beings have come to be known as the Ancients by the few that have been graced by their presence. There are five Ancients: Aaldien, of Space; Drahena, of Love; Jiara, of Realms; Self, of Identity; and Thiddall, of Time.
  • Self, of Identity
  • Before anything else could happen, Self put the first law of the universe in place. Names have power. Knowing the true name of a creature lets one hold dominion over said creature. Each creature, being, and entity in existence has a name it was given at the moment of its creation. They all, however, have a secondary "True Name" that they know to be themself. With this if a creature knows the True Name of another, that creature has complete control over the other. To go along with the law, Self created a book that records the True Name of every being as they are created. These names are recorded in The Book of Self. Every few lifetimes a mortal being comes across the Book of Self, some learning the True Names of powerful creatures or Gods while others descend into madness.
  • Aaldien, of Space
  • After Self, Aaldien created a vast expanse. Then he filled this expanse with matter. At the start there wasn't much, just a mix of gases, liquids, and solids. Aaldien created more and more of this matter, filling this expanse. He took this matter and molded it into worlds of various shapes and sizes. Aaldien kept creating beautiful landscapes on many worlds. Only stopping once his expanse was filled.
  • Jiara, of Realms
  • Jiara watched as Aaldien created worlds. Only she saw more potential for these worlds. She took the worlds and organized them into nine galaxies. Spreading these galaxies equally apart and filled the worlds with various forms of life. She painted mountains with forests and snow, laid shimmering sand across arid ground, brushed rivers and grass over large swathes of land. She filled the beautiful landscapes with magnificent life.
  • Drahena, of Love
  • The universe was vast, beautiful, and detailed. Yet still somehow empty. While the other Ancients were busy putting the foundations in place, Drahena strolled through the universe. Taking it all in. Soon she realized what the other Ancients would come to learn. They each had an emptiness inside them that all of the power in the universe could not fill. She pondered this topic a great deal, occasionally getting input from the other Ancients. It was only until she communed with Thiddall did that reason for this emptiness become clear. The Ancients were created with a specific purpose in mind. To create and watch over a universe filled with life.
  • Thiddall, of Time
  • Thiddall didn't do much at the start. While the other Ancients were building the universe with abandon, Thiddall was stuck deep in thought. For Thiddall has the closest connection to the Unbound out of the Ancients, let alone any other beings throughout the universe. This deep thought was in fact a commune with the Unbound. During which Thiddall learned of the true purpose of the universe. The Unbound gave Thiddall all of the knowledge they knew, letting them decide what to do with this newfound information. Drahena stirred him from this concentration and brought all of the Ancients together. They spent some time determining the best options with this information and ultimately decided to save this knowledge solely for the Ancients.
